Would Marilyn be as famous? Would JFK be known as the same President? Would MLK be another Jessie? ...more?
Would Len Bias be a HOFer? Would Stevie Ray Vaughn be as famous? Would Pat Tillman return to the NFL?
Would Elvis be as big ( as in famous )? Would Nirvana be as famous? Would John Lennon just be an old hippie?
Elvis was a phenomenon long before he died. The one difference might be in the impersonators, but he had such a distinctive style, that I think they might have come anyway.
Would Tina Yothers be successful? Would Corey Feldman be "a cool guy"? Would Tracey Gold have driven drunk with her kids? Would Milli-Vanilli still be climbing the charts? Would Robbie Van Winkle still be Vanilla Ice? Would parachute pants finally been able to find a use for all those pockets? Would Howard Dean still be screaming?
dont think that death had anything to do with either the downfall of vanilli's or the stop of the scream...
we all die eventually , just kidding man. Probably not. Death unites people together. It always has and it always will. And think seriously about that statement because it means everything. How often are we ever united. It's very rare. So when it happens the person who died will be honored in that spirit. Everyone elevates in death, but the more people that know you, and we are talking quantity here, the higher the you will elevate in greatness. The later in life you die the quantity of people that know you lessens every year.
JFK was definitely helped legacy-wise by the assassination. i would think almost anyone who hears the his name first thinks of him being assassinated. at least i do. it supercedes what he did in office. Marilyn - i'm sure it helped a little. i'm sure she would've always been thought of as a sex symbol though. MLK - not sure it did that much for him. he had already done so much. i think of all the work he did and the "I have a dream" speech well before i think of him being assassinated. Elvis - he was already the King of Rock and Roll and a mega-superstar when he died. we wouldn't have Elvis sightings if he was still alive obviously but Elvis was already Elvis. Buddy Holly would've made a lot more good songs but he doesn't seem like he had the star power/appeal/charisma to be the king of rock and roll. he certainly wasn't taking it away from Elvis.
