The new rumor of Cassell going to New Jersey for Kidd has angered me. Cassell played his heart out and single handledly won games for them (thats right KG) in the playoffs.

He even played hurt in the playoffs for them. And now they want to get rid of him for Jason Kidd??

Jason Kidd as good as Magic Johnson? NO. Stockton? NO.

Jason Kidd, the MOST OVERRATED PG OF ALL TIME.
The same one who IN THE CLUTCH dropped ZERO POINTS against Detroit last year.

Sam on ONE LEG dropped 18 on the LAKERS.

KG and the Twolves can go to hell if they do this.

    ALIENS RULE!!!

I think Jason Kidd (at least when healthy) is definitely the better point guard, but not necessarily the better fit in Minnesota. They cycle through players (other than KG) way too frequently. Sam played great for them all year. Why make that move?

I hope they DO trade for Kidd. By All-Star break, they would realize that Cassell not only did a fantastic job for them running the point, he also scored when others didn't and came through with clutch baskets at the end of games...something that Kidd has never done consistently in his career.

Damn straight. THE MAN shout not be disrespected that way. If the NBA keeps treating him this way, Sam should just start his own league.

Cassell was a better PG, last year. I would argue that he was the best PG in the nba last year.

    My opinion?

Sam was the better PG last season. He was just phenomenal, but Kidd is the better PG overall but not by much though.

Both give you different looks but personally I'd choose Cassell over Kidd. Sam may not be able to run a break as well as Kidd can but Cassell in the half court with his mid range shot make him extremely dangerous. Kidd seems to only flourish under a running team. Maybe Sam is finally coming into his own but he's definitely been underated throughout his career. Maybe I'm just rocket biased though.

There would have been seasons I would have taken Kidd over Cassell but at this point in their careers, I'll take cassell. His injuries are less detrimental to his game than Kidd's

Minnesota trades: PG Sam Cassell (19.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 7.3 apg in 35.0 minutes)
SG Wally Szczerbiak (10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.2 apg in 22.2 minutes)
Minnesota receives: PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 36.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -14.5 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and +0.7 apg.

Houston trades: PG Tyronn Lue (10.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 4.2 apg in 30.7 minutes)
SG Reece Gaines (1.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 9.6 minutes)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.7 minutes)
PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Sam Cassell (19.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 7.3 apg in 81 games)
SG Wally Szczerbiak (10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.2 apg in 28 games)
Change in team outlook: +1.2 ppg, -6.0 rpg, and +1.2 apg.

New Jersey trades: PG Jason Kidd (15.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 9.2 apg in 36.5 minutes)
New Jersey receives: PG Tyronn Lue (10.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 4.2 apg in 76 games)
SG Reece Gaines (1.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 38 games)
SF Clarence Weatherspoon (5.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.6 apg in 52 games)
PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 75 games)
Change in team outlook: +13.3 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and -1.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Minnesota, Houston, and New Jersey being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Minnesota, Houston, and New Jersey had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In my opinion the Wolves would be foolish to trade Cassell for Kidd. Cassell's mid range jumper is critical to the Wolves offense. Kidd's got a bad wheel and his half court game isnt any better than Cassell's. The Wolves NEED Cassell's offense.

how much of an upgrade is Kidd over Cassell really?

When you talk about credentials/accolades sure Kidd is better than Cassell.

But when you talk about what a player brings to SAID team, Cassell is more valuable to the Wolves than Kidd would be. Kidd dishing out 10 apg won't make the Wolves DRASTICALLY better than a Cassell doing 19/7.

AND factor in how much Kidd has left on his contract....

I say go for it wolves! One less team to worry about.

How many more years does Cassell have on his contract? I hope this trade goes down and I hope it's not many. It'd be awesome to have Sammy finish his career here and I also think for Minnesota, it'd make them a worse team. Kidd can't shoot a lick. We definitely need to start thinking long term as far as point guards are concerned.

I will say that Cassell missed some critical games last year too. That makes them equal on the injury front. So you have to ask who is better. And Kidd is better. If for no other reason than everyone else thinks he's better. He has street cred. And that goes a lot further than talent in this league (because everybody has talent in this case).

The Wolves are insane if they're going to trade away Cassell for Kidd. Jason Kidd will never again be the same player. Who's going to hit big shots for them in the clutch? I hope you're not going to say Garnett. Sam Cassell is the heart and soul of that team and quite frankly is a better player than Jason Kidd at this point. If they're going to trade away their best scorer and leader for a guy not much younger, making $100million, can't shoot, coming off knee surgery and most likely to miss the start of the season, I give them my blessing. That's one less team the Rockets will have to worry about. I'm laughing right now at the thought of Jason Kidd on one leg in a playoff series trying to shoot over the top in the halfcourt set against the Rockets because JVG has slowed the game down to a crawl. Good luck, Wolves.

Holy crap is he 35 already?!

Oh and btw, by longterm I was referring to aquisitions we could make after this season, and with my question about when his contracts up, it really wasn't that odd of a statement. The real question is, why do you hate Sam Cassell? ;)

Agreed. Nugs winning the division would be beautiful. :D

I hate Cassell. I knwo you guys all love him because he used to be a Rocket. I can't stand the prick. Never have. Last seasons playoff series cemented it. I've never seen a player come out of the tunnel from the locker room, skip warming up, and immediately start complaining to a ref before.

Sam Cassell is the most underrated player in the ENTIRE NBA. No question about it. He single-handedly was the reason why we won the title against the Knicks. But another factor that would make this a flat-out idiotic trade is the fact that Kidd is suffering from severe wear and tear. I'd much rather have Cassell than even a fully healthy Kidd.

Sam is one of the most underrated in my lifetime, but I hate the trade for this reason:

KIDD IS DONE. Nobody comes back from microfracture surgery at 100%.
