I'm thinking there are a few ahead of him at this point like Nash, Duncan, Dirk, Shaq, KG, MAYBE Kobe with his bloated numbers... But if Rockets were to win about 75% of the remaining schedule and get out of the 1st Round (assuming his torrid numbers continue as of late), will T-Mac be the 04-05 MVP? Last year's announcement came on May 3rd, so if the Suns/Mavs falter early on, Lakers/Wolves skip the post season, it'll be a three-way race between Shaq, Duncan, and T-Mac. With the Rockets being this year's "wild card" playoff team and the first two aforementioned already having won the MVP (Duncan 2x), I say YES!!!

P.S. Let's not forget the "McMiracle!"

Nope. TMac may deserve it this year if we get to the level you mentioned, but in reality, you have to play at that level for at least two years to be considered for MVP (Duncan, Garnett, even Shaq got dissed in seasons I thought they should win the MVP only to win the next year).

I said no way. If we do win 50 games, it wont be that big of a deal. 50 games isnt all that much in the west. If the rox keep playin the way they are, getting out of the first round will be expected. I still think Nash, Stoudamire, Duncan, and Shaq would all be ahead of him if the above happens.

I was under the assumption that it was handed out during or after Round 1 as you rarely if ever see an MVP's team not go to the Finals or Conference Finals...

They give it out in the post season, but doesn't the voting go down a while before it is actually awarded?

MVPs may be awarded during the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs (remember Robinson being honored during the 95 WCF) but they're based on regular season achievements only.

We would have to just about win out with TMac scoring 45+ per night to overtake Iverson for scoring champion for him to be even considered for MVP. Next year, starting out the season with a team that he is comfortable with and has chemistry with, it may be possible for him to be MVP and scoring champion.

Then why wait weeks later to hand it out, I don't know really, the MVP is usually pretty obvious so I never really paid attention I guess, but this year...

I believe it's voted on before the playoffs, but not announced until a few weeks later. Thus, resulting in the award being given out during the second round or early third.

I always thought the voting took place through the first round of the playoffs. I could certainly be wrong, but I thought I remembered Bill Worrell saying that he had voted for Robinson for MVP during the first round of the playoffs in '95.

I can understand Nash, Duncan and Shaq. Please, Stoudamire?

    I voted NO WAY.
It's just not going to happen. MVP means the whole year, and for a good twenty games, we were damn awful. That's 1/4 of the year.
Shaq HAS to be in the top three, as well as Nash and Duncan. I can't even see how Stoudemire is up there in the top 5, as I do remember Phoenix losing 5 in a row without Nash, and facts like that cannot be overlooked. So, T-Mac won't win. It's gotta be Nash or Shaq.

Not likely, expcept we have 18-2 record or something like that for the rest of 20 games.

Best case scenario would be 4th runner up, and that's not even likely.
