IMO the Rockets are planning to acquire someone near the end of the Trade deadline(Sometime in February). I think we have too many guards and need a nice quality Power Forward and a good backup for Yao next year once Deke retires (Unless hes up for another year).

What kind of player do you want the Rockets to trade for?

Why do we need a PF? JHO is playing awesome and Hayes is playing good as backup PF. We dont need to trade any players this year. Rockets should just focus on getting all the players healthy especially YAO, Tmac and Bonzi. Our team is solid right now to compete with the best....injuries is the only problem. I think Mutombo is good for another year. If every player is healthy in the Rockets, we can make some serious noise in the playoffs. Our role players are also perfect for this team with Alston, Head, Mutombo, JHO n Hayes. I really think JVG needs to get Novak and Span more involved to make a complete team. JVG depends too much on Yao n Tmac especially tmac, thats why our teams looks lost when they loose a star player.

Troy Murphy was perfect  We need a decent sized pf, preferably one that can at least shoot a little bit. I love Hayes' hustle, but he is giving up too many offensive rebounds because of his height.

Murphy is overpaid and overrated, but then again so is just about every big men in the league not named Yao. Jeff Foster is a more realistic option. He rebounds like a madman and plays solid defense, and he has a mid-level contract. Yes he's an offensive liability, but he can backup both Center and Power Forward positions. Now that Indiana has Troy Murphy, Foster is extraneous, so we he's definitely a feasible trade target. Yes we have Chuck Hayes and Mutombo, but both of them can't spell enough minutes to make us a deep team.

best available player at either pg - pf or pf/center.

Ideally a pg good enough to push reefer for the starting pg slot.

I didn't think of Foster. That would be a great pickup for TE or Sura/padgett. I don't really want to give up any of our rotation players (other than Hayes) in a trade.

I think Rafer has got to go, and there are possible issues with the durability of Juwan Howard as the season will progress. A team that is loaded with players at the point is the Celtics, they have been using Delonte West a lot more than Telfair, and Rajon Rondo looks like he might be a good pickup. If we throw in Bonzi in the deal, maybe we can get Ryan Gomes from them too.

Rockets trade: Rafer Alston and Bonzi Wells
    FOR
Celtics trade: (Telfair of Rondo) and Ryan Gomes

    What do yall think?

Why would Boston want Rafer who has several years left on his contract? Bonzi's contract is so small it wouldn't help them free up any cap space. Just can't understand why a team that has no hope for this year would do this trade.

If Francise is bought out, we could sign him with vet.min. Te for a young PF who can also play centre.

    PG......

Rafer is everybody's whipping boy around here but he's still a decent player that can help us. The problem is he shouldn't be getting the minutes he does but he gets them since JVG is basically left with no choice otherwise. V-Span isn't ready yet and watching JLIII dominate the ball and chuck up shots makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

I voted for other. We need depth at PG. Rafer is not a problem, he's just not enough to fill a full 48 minutes.

They need what they hoped Swift would have been - an athletic 4 that can play the 5 in decent minutes each game and who can rebound, block a few shots and be able to at least put the ball in the basket when they rarely get a shot.

Nothing great, just someone who WILL contribute ona regular basis and help matchup against the teams who try to go smaller.

Melvin Ely is a possibility, though I would think it would have happened already if the Rockets wanted him as they could trade Sura's expiring contract for Ely's.

I've always liked Malik Allen's game and would think he would be a great fit on this roster.

Obviously, they will look for help to play behind Rafer as well. Lucas III has played OK, but he isn't proven enough to be trusted in critical situations (especially in the playoffs). Not this year anyway.

I say we sign Matt Haryasz to 10-days till Yao gets back. He's doing a decent job in D-League and is somewhat familiar with our plays. Even 5 minutes of rest could make a difference in extending Mutombo's productivity.

Since this thread is talking about February, when Yao will be very close to returning, I think the thing we need to look out for is a backup PG..

UNLESS V-Span or Lucas suddenly start to get it.

So here are the needs I think we should address:

    1) Temporary backup C. Till Yao gets back. If that player is worth keeping longer, that's a bonus.

    2) Someone who can cut Rafer's minutes by 10-15 minutes. He is clearly unable to maintain his concentration enough to make sound decisions for 40 minutes. He has always been a terriffic 25-30 minute kind of guy. Rafer's productivity goes up, plus perhaps this backup PG could give us stellar defense and penetration, which is something Rafer doesn't provide.

    3) Young backup 4/5 who could grow to be Yao's backup and chip in at the 4 if needed. This team could use more shotblocking.

I really think that the rockets need to go after a forward that can guard Dirk. Dallas is so quick and has alot of shooters. It is almost impossible to double Team. TMAC does a good job on Dirk but we need his energy for other things.

SA, we ca double team Duncan and still can cover the shooter ok.

and for phoenix I feel like win can beat them in a 7 games series.
