    to reinstate the draft?

Though most of us doubt the draft would be reinstated, I'm curious to see your answers

I think it's hilarious the situation the country has found itself in. The past two presidents, and several upcoming presidents I'm sure, will all have been draft dodgers (I guess Bill was actually in school?). The people that have the means to weasel their way into the highest office are the same people that had the means to avoid active duty.

Honor? Valor? I find it interesting that the man we'll directly target has a 1/4 of a billion dollars and still fought for his country's independence for ten years. He obviously has his men's respect.

    Does W?

interesting point, but i doubt the (military) draft will be reintroduced.

Should try to keep international politics questions off the BBS as much as possible, given there are so many international clutch posters, and personal opinion/bias will/could creep in (then the **** will hit the fan). Facts are cool, but the Qs open a pandoras box, which no-one (including this bbs) needs at this time.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Looking forward to the new Rox season. Any idea on when training camps are going to open?

I disagree completely. Questions and controversy are what keep things interesting, especially in this 'family' in our own little corner of the internet.

Achebe, you know I respect what you have to say, so I welcome the question. I'm sure a lot of people think I'm rather conservative in my recent posts from 9/11. The truth is though, I hate putting a label on myself or on others. I'm very much on the fence. I'm conservative on some issues and liberal on others.

I think the label issue is the biggest problem amongst the people: I supported Bill Clinton 100%. I think he was a great president.

What I think matters most is that as the president, I had a lot of respect for him. As a man though, I didn't have much respect for him. Right now, I'm completely behind this administration 100%, but I voted for Ralph Nader.

As a man, no, I don't think he does. But as president he has a duty to perform for the betterment (is that even a word....sorry...I'm rather intoxicated right now) of the nation. So as the President of the United States of America, yes, I do think he has that right.

That is an amazingly illogical statement. Weak, very weak and uninformed. This betrays your total lack of knowledge. This thread doesn't even belong here - I'm only responding due to your lack of accurate facts.

Bush was in the National Guard at the time and flew jets. (about 400,000 were in the Guard during the Vietman war). Draft dodgers went to Canada etc... Clinton did leave the country going overseas (UK) as a road scholar.

How can you say Bin Laden has any honor. Making a fatwa to kill ANY jew, christian and all Americans - including women and children gives you honor? Masterminding and actually carrying out those acts all over the world may make him insane but not honorable. In addition his father George Bush was a war hero who even had the purple heart and distinguished service medals in World War II.

Another flaw in your statement - fought for his countrys independence for ten years. Wasn't his country - he is from Saudi Arabia - already independant at the time - he financed war in Afghanistan but did no fighting himself. In fact for the majority of the 10 years was NOT in Afghanistan.

You imply that due to the fact Bin Laden has 250 Million dollars - that conveys respect, honor etc.. Well you lose there as well. His money ENTIRELY inherited. Honor, respect well you lose there on the facts as well - he has benn ENTIRELY DISINHERITED by his own family.

Achebe, before you make even a bigger fool of yourself please check at least some of your fact before posting.

Well, my too bits (not two!!)

The only compulsory draft that exist for this forum is the NBA draft....Now do we have any superstars who have skipped the draft......I doubt but willing to open this thread to that discussion.

Back to Bin Laden and courage........I agree with several of you that this on the wrong forum..but it does keep things interesting...maybe he has a FEW FOLKS WHO CAN PLAY 4 OR 5 and then I guess Rox could benefit from.......Apart from that crass comment, I would say that the Laden is treating his folks as human bombs, or at least a lot of them are willing to give their lives for that is both incredible and incomprehesible. HE must be having something in him that's driving this........we need to make sure that by going after him we do not make him bigger than he really is...a very, very sick person.....who is twisting fats and emotions to get millions of people to do what would seem unbelieveable to most of the civilized world..

Maybe I can help turn this thread into something positive other than a mud slinging campaign. What are the requirements to play in the NBA? I guess my question is referencing the draft. What keeps foreign players (who have never participated in an NBA draft) from signing on with a team in November for a larger amount of money than what they would have gotten if they were actually drafted? Do players actually have to participate in a draft before they can play?

Shame on you Achebe! ;) I don't even consider it when I think about it. I hate to compare it to sports, but there are coaches and managers who have never played the game yet turn out to be good at their job. The president for the most part gets advice and just gives the go ahead to the military so it shouldn't be a problem in theory.

    LOL!

I will ridicule anyone who runs down the President and has any kind of praise for murderer Osama Bin Laden.

If someone makes statements like that they better had be able to back it up.

I fully protect anyone's right to speak like that but I also reserve my own right to respond as well.

I don't find the deaths of thousands of people 'hilarious' at all. Its sad when people speak flippantly about such a serious and tragic issue.

What, exactly is a "road scholar?" Did he study the construction of highways, or something? :p

As for the rest of this thread:

    Achebe,

You are a no good terrorist. How dare you post this in the Rockets forum. You are just trying to increase the fear of all the people who do not go to the hangout forum. It is all part of your plan you no good b*stard.

But, Superkev, I think you misinterpreted Achebe a bit. I did not take that he was calling bin Laden honerable. Just that, despite his obvious position in the upper-class of S.A., he still went to fight in Afghanastan. Thus, he can easily get the respect of HIS men, not us. bin Laden is supposed to be a very charismatic guy and part of his aura for his followers are the legends about him from the war with the Soviets.

Also, many peope did avoid the draft by going into a more limited, domestic only type of service. It is an obvious tool of the social elite...as well as leaving the country.

I cannot speak for the rest of your problems with Achebe. Even what I have given was just my personal reading of his statements, as well. Perhaps I am wrong and he really does like bin Laden, I just find that hard to believe.

HEB is a commie and Super Kev is a hotheaded reactionary fool.

I think that sums up this thread.
