If the NBA weren't in a lockout, would Yao Ming still have retired?

    the lockout had nothing to do with his decision..if anything the lockout gave him more time to recover from his injuries if he was coming back...

    The lockout actually potentially gave him even more time to rehab. Looks like he came to grips with the severity of his situation.

    of course not, he said he couldnt play anymore, I think the lockout could benefit him by giving to him more time to recover and a season with less games to play.

    He could barely play 20 minutes a game without getting a stress fracture. After that first stress fracture your foot gets weaker and weaker every single time.
    Yao was at his breaking point where his injuries in basketball could have affected his day-to-day life.

    If the answer is 'no', the lockout has done both the Rockets team and Yao himself a big favor. I truly believe that the guy will become handicapped if he continues to play.
