What happens if Yao Ming, the Sharks, and CBA fail to reach an agreement by Wed and what will the Rockets likely do? The first question to resolve though will anyone take a chance on Yao Ming if the Rockets aren't assured they would have him. Somebody may be willing to take a risk - but who? The Knicks, for example, may be a little cautious after the Fredrick Wies fiasco. The upside on this guy is huge but his downside is he may never play in the NBA. I figure he would still end up being a lottery pick but around 10 to 13. Possibly the Clippers could take a gamble with their second pick. If the Rockets decide not to trade or can't trade the pick: I don't like the idea but I would have to go with taking Jay wil and look to trade him or Franchise in the future. I can't imagine the Rockets would draft a lesser talent. More likely the Rockets would trade with Chicago, GSW, or the Clippers. If the Rockets trade with Chicago: We get #2 and ? (Crawford or Fizor). They would likely take Jay Will. We draft Dunleavy. If the Rockets trade with GSW: We get the #3 and Jamison. They would likely take Jay Will. Chicago then takes ? - Dunleavy. The Rockets could take Butler, Gooden. If we trade with the Clippers: we get Odom and #8. Several players would be availble at #8. At this point we really need a PF and the three top 10 players that may still be there are Nene, Tskitishvili, and Gooden. Otherwise Jeffries or Wilcox. Regardless of the scenario the Rockets end result will be filling the SF and PF slots along with Steve and Mobley in the backcourt. But we would still be short a quality center.
It would be funny if the Rockets could not reach an agreement to take Ming and Ming dropped to 15 where he was taken by the Rockets. Would the rest of the league cry foul?
I actually wasted a few minutes of this beautiful Tuesday by reading The Rocket Guy's latest abortion. Horrific. I wonder, do you have to have a terrible goatee to write for bskball?
