It seems the Bulls are looking for veteran players with one year left on their contract, to get over the NBA minimum. Maybe we could help them out and send them Walt Williams and his $4.75 million salary? From today's ESPN Insider: Oakley's un-Bull-ievable trade Charles Oakley got his wish . . . sort of. The Raptors have agreed to trade their controversial forward to the Chicago Bulls, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Raptors will get forward Brian Skinner and a second-round pick. Oakley gives the Bulls a sorely needed veteran presence. He also helps them get to their goal of reaching the NBA league minimum team payroll. The Bulls could not participate in the league revenue sharing program if they didn't pick up a few big salaries to get closer to the cap. The Raptors were forced to clear some cap and roster space after agreeing to a $65-million deal Wednesday with Antonio Davis and a $40.8-million deal Thursday with Jerome Williams. Now the Bulls and Raptors will really square off for the services of Raptors free-agent point guard Alvin Williams. "Reports that we've signed with Toronto aren't even close to being accurate," Williams' agent, Bill Strickland, said. "I've had dialogue with Jerry Krause which I anticipate continuing. There is other interest, but I would say Chicago and Toronto are clearly at the top of the list." Atlanta entered the picture Thursday. Alvin Williams is expected to command a multiyear deal of $5-6 million. ------------------
JBC,if we could dump Walt over to Krause and free up that much more cap,I'd be full speed ahead. The Bulls would seem to have nothing to lose(and everything to gain on the cap next year),since their going nowhere this year.Mr.Have Jumper,Will Travel, along with the other vets they are bringing in could help keep the natives from becoming too restless..This move would definitely broaden our options.... ..Good to see you care so much lately! ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham [This message has been edited by hardwood (edited July 13, 2001).]
Let's throw in that bum Cato too. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Yeah and the #23 pi... oh wait. Nevermind. ------------------ "I'll tell you this, the older I get, the less I trust people. It's true. It's damn true." -- gr8-1 going through some growing pains.
I agree with slick. Walt may be easy to deal because he can shoot. This will be useful to the Bulls to #1 combat the zone and #2 help form an inside out game with their new big men. They need a guy like Williams, and I think that Walt would like that situation
I've heard on here by some supposedly insiders that Walt was close to being traded, but a slight upheavel rose amongst his disapproving teamates(I assume this means Francis and Mobley). So, it looks like we may ride out Walts contract. ------------------
I disagree. I think we can trade him to a team that's looking to CONTEND, cause his shooting is a HUGE asset with the new rules. Plus, he's in the last year of his contract, which means he'll play much harder and will free up cap space (5 million). I can see him in LA (?) Maybe to the Spurs? Philly maybe? I think he's a very hot commodity, that's IF the Rockets WANT to trade him. I remember hearing something about the players being attached and not wanting to see him leave? I dunno. ------------------
Cato and Walt for Miller and future 2nd draft choice wouldn't be a bad deal. Clears salary and gets us a solid back-up center. Gives Bulls a couple of vets, one with jump shot and an expiring salary, another who maybe his old coach things he could turn around. Probably dreaming, but stranger things have happened (Det/Phox deal). ------------------
Walt will be easy to dump. I don't expect that he will make it much longer. If he makes the dead line I will be shocked.
