Trade Roy Oswalt? I think it is getting close to time to trade him. If the team is not going to contend, we need to look at getting some young players that can contribute in the future, particularly pitching. Agree or not?
should? yes will? no drayton just won't OK it.. (unless Roy asks for it himself..then maybe. But I can't see him doing that)
the way Roy has looked this year, we may not even get much for him. he's my favorite Astro so it would pain me to see him go. i say yes.
We have needed to completely rebuild for a couple of years now. Blow everything up and start over with young talent. We will NEVER contend with zero farm system and we are bottom of the barrel.
In this market, you won't get fair compensation. Roy has been a slow starter the past few years. His key is to get out of the funk sooner than he did last season. I know the start to the season has been...well, craptastic. I'm not going to start running trade scenarios and picturing tombstones until at least July. Astros fans should know better by now.
Yes, trade Oswalt, Lee, Tejada, Berkman, Valverde, etc. Trade everyone over 30 for minor league prospects.
yeah...2 games in, he sucks. he's a notoriously slow starter, was one of the best pitchers in baseball the second half of last season, never mind the past 8 years and is on a steal of a contract. if oswalt was available teams would pay.
Depends on what you can get for him. You trade him if a great deal comes along, or you hold onto him if you can't get exactly what you want. Regardless, it is way too early to start worrying about trading Oswalt.
we'd have to get back a lot of good, young ML talent to be the Pirates.. trading away our guys wouldn't bring back that level of talent at the ML level..
Starts off slow but Roy O will pick it up and win his normal 15 to 17 games. I agree he is a bit overrated as far as being a top 5 pitcher but he is still solid.
I am not saying Roy sucks, I am saying the entire team is bad, and if it is not going to contend, and honestly Roy seems to pitch better when he is MOTIVATED...ie...into it... I think I would seriosly look at moving him if the team does not turn it around.... And no one will take Lee and that contract. DD
How hard is it to project prospects playing in the minors compared to other sports? It seems like such a gamble to trade in mature talent for guys we cant depend on for production, particularly in baseball. We've had crap in our system for so long now... why can't we draft well... or well enough? I'm horridly ignorant of how it works and why we cant stock our shelves besides the fact that we made so many trades for known commodities. Eventually the draft should be the great equalizer. I'd rather rebuild and have a couple bad years as opposed to being like we are now, all hope, no results. '05 was a while ago now. I don't want a Rockets-esque 12 year drought. And if we rebuild, you know that we can just sign a big name when the young talent is ready to step up during and making peanuts. Now its a lose lose situation. No future players to look forward to and the current roster just isnt getting it done.
Why is it only in baseball that when a team sucks people say "lets trade our best player for what essentially amounts to draft picks"?
If u go that route then its Drayton and Wade's fault.Cooper just manage the guys that they provide which is average at best.
If the team was full of no names and sucked, the average fan probably wouldn't be interested. Drayton needs Oswalt, Berkman, Tejada, etc. to sell tickets.
