We know that Sura is tough and bring us rebounds while Alston played just like what we need recently. Here comes the poll: Given a healthy Sura and the current Alston, which one should we start?

Skip. With all the intangibles Sura brings to the table, he can't run the offense like Alston can. It'll be good to have both of them though.

It would definitely have to be Alston just because he fits better with the starting unit.

The thing is, however, that if Sura comes back healthy and shotting well and doing all the things he did well last season, with his 6'5" frame, he could actually help out at the 2 spot as well, but mostly he's going to get some good minutes at the 1 and the 2 I imagine, but the way Alston is passing the ball makes him a bona fide starter on this team.

DW, JB, Sura, and Bogans will have to fight for minutes at the 2 and 3 spots.

I would have said "both" if Sura was a better shooter. It would be great to start Sura at the 2 spot if our PG was a good outside shooter. But he is not a reliable shooter as Wesley. Nor is Alston. Having a Alston-Sura backcourt would expose even more of our offensive problems.

are you kidding me? sura has been out the entire year and rafer has done a great job with both yao and tracy in the lineup. if sura comes back (and when i mean come back i mean come back and play the way he did last year) he probably be the starting 2 guard but not right away thats for sure. He'll probably be the 6th man off the bench and then probably eek his way into the starting lineup.

Sura brought a fire to the Rockets for sure, but he did have a problem getting the ball to Yao, in good position for a shot. Alston has been much more effective at this, with good result.

    Start Ralston.

Sura, if he was healthy (big IF), would be a great 3rd guard on a contending team. At this point, a healthy Sura would take Head's place in the rotation. But no way he starts over Alston - Skip is a classic PG who makes everything easier on offense. In my mind, Skip is the 3rd best player on this team and his injury really hurt our chances to win a few of those TMac-less games. For all of those who were lovin' on Mike James and hatin' on Skip earlier this season, I say that it's a lot easier to score a bunch of points on a bad team than to run an offense on a good team.

You can't just throw the guy in after nearly a YEAR off b/c of surgery. Even though he was great for us last year, I still think he needs so time off the bench to get back up to speed. Plus, Alston is playing great as of late.

alston is playing REALLY great basketball right now, he's been cosistent for the pass 3 or 4 games, if he continues, which i think he does because he's finally getting used to the team and learning where all his teammates be

If we continue to win, then you leave Alston in. This is the first time that Alston, Yao, and McGrady have all been healthy, although McGrady is probably playing through pain most of the time. We are playing well with these three, but it has been against poor competition. The next few games against the Clippers and Suns should show us how good this team can be with Alston as a starter.

I think I missed something somewhere, but is Sura's knee really that bad? People are saying that he'll never come back, etc. I was never under the impression it's that bad.

If he's able to cut, run, sprint, and shoot hundreds of jumpers, why can't he play with the same intensity he did last season  .

thanks, Furious Jam. i totally agree. we pulled off a coup with the Skip-Mike James (WHO? MIKE JAMES) trade. sure, the injury was unfortunate, but the situation has unfolded exactly the way we were anticipating it to.
james has been trying to put up big numbers to get his contract; rafer is reverting back to his miami days and just being a great PG all-around - exactly what we need. i would like to have more passers like rafer on this team.

i'm sure i'm leaving off someone, but if sura gets healthy, here's what line-up strings we could have come playoff time:

    Starting:
    PG - Rafer
    SG - Wesley/Bogans
    SF - Tracy
    PF - Juwan/Harrington [http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2192839&postcount=71]
    C - Yao

    Bench:
    PG - Sura
    SG - Head
    SF - Barry
    PF - Hayes/Swift
    C - Swift/Mutombo

    Benchwarmers:
    Rybo
    Maciej
