Should we use his money to go after Paul Konerko? I think it would be sweet justice. I think he could hit 50+ hrs in MMP. We definitely could use another bat in the lineup. Just imagine, Berkman, Konerko, and Ensberg all in a row. Might not be too bad of a deal if Roger doesn't come back. Or should we try to find another pitcher?

Not sure how much money will be freed up with Roger not coming back. Anybody have a list of players who are arbitration eligible? I am pretty sure Berkman and Roy O will both get significant raises from the extensions they signed. Ensberg is probably arbitration elilgible as well.

Sweet justice? More like pouring salt on the wounds after we already beat 'em 4-2 in the World Series. :D

    hmm a tough choice

I'd go after both another pitcher and a bat

obviously you're not gonna sign 1 high profile pitcher and 1 high profile hitter

so if you get one, you'll have to settle for less talent on the other.

Konerko is going to get near Beltran-type money after this post-season... and somebody will pony up to pay him that.

Also, 1B is really the only position that they actually have a chance at getting a new player for next year... but you also have to factor in that they can play Lance there, and get Burke more AB's in LF against righties.

From a financial standpoint, I still want this team to have flexibility down the road to make mid-season trades to bolster some needs... and right now, they're a nice blend of young (affordable) talent, and a couple higher priced players.

We will have $18 million invested at 1B next year. Unfortunately, it will be in Bags.

We need a new outfielder, not another 1st baseman.

Everyone seems to still think the astros will go after brian giles from san diego who's an on base machine with some decent power.

I could see Furcal signed with Everett being traded to Atlanta, and near his family.

If Rocket and Bags are both in rocking chairs the off season for the World Serious Champs might be interesting!

I'd do a big deal with the Braves

    Furcal and Chipper

    for

    Adam and Ensberg

(money doesn't work with Bagwell's anchor contract, I know)

look at a deal for the Reds leftover of (Griffey or Kearns, likely) and beg Roger to resign. or perhaps sign Huff to a deal.

They've made it a great run, and it's not over, but the offense is tough to watch.

Can you tell me why they didn't attempt a squeeze with willy t? that was the highest percentage play (sans Willy's deep drive doubles from earlier this series)?

Money doesn't work, talent doesn't work and Furcal's a free agent.
