Remember, if the Rockets acquire a player with their Trade Exception, it will put them over the maximum number of players allowed. The Rockets currently have 15 players under contract (including Sura, whose contract will be kept around until at least the trade deadline). If another player is added, then the Rockets will have to waive a player. My guess is that it would be Scott Padgett. Spanoulis, JLIII and Novak are all on multi-year deals. Perhaps Carroll Dawson will ask Scotty to "take a break" for a week or two and to expect a call from the Rockets after the trade deadline if they manage to reduce the number of players via 2-for-1 trade, etc. Your thoughts?
No way. Sura's contract is one of the Rockets most valuable trade assets. And if they cannot trade his contract prior to the trade deadline, they may be able to shop it in the offseason ($3.8M, but with a $100k buyout, I think). Also, if no one wants the contract and Sura retires, the Rockets get a Disabled Player Exception (DPE) equal to 1/2 of Sura's salary ($1.9M) that they can use on free agents. Rockets management will NOT waive Sura. His contract is too valuable.
Hmm, for some reason I thought his contract expired this year. Padge probably becomes expendable, then.
I don't think his idea was to waive Sura... but what about packaging him with the TE in a trade? Those two together seem like they would be a very nice package for a team looking for cap room. They might be able to get us a pretty decent contributor.
well it depends who we get. if its a backup pg then lucas is out. if its PF/C then it's yao. ok maybe not yao..then padgett.
It expires next year (2007/08). In that case it does become useful if we keep him on the roster and use him as a tradeable asset in the offseason.
AHHHH, yeah, its been said only 1 trillion times on this board....remember this one...let it soak in...be a sponge....u ready....take a deep breath, clear your mind..... THE TE CANT BE COMBINED WITH ANY PLAYER! IT IS SIMPLE> ONE TRADE EXCEPTION EQUALS THE GAIN OF ONE PLAYER MAKING 4.2 MILLION OR LESS.
As slow and unathletic as Padgett is, he looks like an all pro compared to Novak. Novak has 0 moves and no quickness, can't rebound, can't defend. Plus Padge is much more experienced and savvy.
I was listening to Sirius NBA radio show, it was mentioned that the Rockets could have a deal done by tomorrow for the TE. They mentioned three possible teams that may do the trade:Cleveland, New Jersey, and I don't recall the third team since I was driving and couldn't hear the last team because of the noise but I believe it was either Minn or Memphis. I just can't remember sorry.
Let's see....Cleveland player under 4.1Mil Damon Jones, Newble, Scott Pollard, Pavlovic, Varejao,David Wesley, Shannon Brown? New Jersey: I forgot who's under 4.1. I hope it's either Josh Boone or Mikki Moore. THey hv Nachbar, Kristic(not possible), Eddie House, Marcus Williams, Antonie Wright under. CD gets it done! Moore or Boone!
