Rice gone, WALT is BACK and will START :(

This really sucks............you can say that there is no way that Walt starts but given the present status of the team and not wanting to rush the rookie you can expect Walt to start. Hello Lottery!!!

With the Rockets needing a veteran SF and perimeter shooter, there is NO WAY Rudy would trade him to Washington for Jahidi White. So with this deal going through, we lose Rice, and a chance to get Jahidi White, and maybe Shandon Anderson.

Who said Rice was gone? The Rockets just want to see some more results from his physical... don't overreact yet.

All of a sudden losing Bullard takes on new meaning. He was easily the greatest 3 point shooter in Rockets history and with the zone defense would have been a horror for opposing teams. This is what you get and deserve when you screw players like Hakeem and Bullard. Bullard is a Rocket and there is definately something wrong when you see him wearing a Hornets jersey. We will all miss that automatic 3 pointer and even miss him more as we watch "inconsistant" Walt get more and more playing time.

I guess I worded my post wrong, I was speaking hypothetically. People who think the deal potentially falling through is a good thing might want to re-think that if all of these dominos fall. Hey Cat, how can you get those tags for italics and bolds to work in your signature? I went to edit my profile and the HTML was turned off, and I don't know if it can be turned on.

    Cat,
Trust me you do not want Glen Rice if there are medical questions. I have had the same injury he has (basically heel spurs) and it would kill the Rockets and their salary cap to pay this guy 28 million dollars (actually 20 mil against the cap). This injury is much like a stress fracture in that it only gets worse the more you play, unless you take a year off. I play basketball and I tried to play through it and it got to a point where I was limping through games and favoring my foot all the time. They will end up renigging on the deal and retaining the valuable cap space. Once again I just have to stress how much this sucks because as a result of this failed trade we lost a underrated great shooter and loyal Rocket in Matt Bullard.

No way we are taking Shandon and his long contract back if this doesn't fall through. Too bad Bullard shipped off so soon, but I think Rice will come through. He just has to stand out on the 3 point line while steve and cat drive in.

    WS,

A poster on this board a few days ago also claimed to have had Rice's injury, and did not claim it to be anywhere as severe as you say. The Rockets knew of this injury before the trade... unless there is a huge surprise that they did not know about, the trade will go through.

    "waltsucks"...

you have the Rice's salary situation mixed up...we pay him $20M and get a $28M cap hit. the only thing this helps at all is Leslie's wallet.

I posted it. It is a nescience injury. It doesn't affect long term mobility as a bad back or knee injury. It's just painful. Aferall, Rice played through it most of last season. If it resurfaced, he could play through it again.

BUT the bad news is that this is a very painful injury and because it is in the foot, it is tough to recover from. When I previously posted it, I didn't realize he was still having pain. That concerns me. :( This is the type of thing that never seems goes away.

So he could play but won't be 100%. Do we want a 34 y/o who is not 100% trying to keep up w/ Cat and Steve? It sounds like the Dr's will approve him in time but I'm now very concerned about his ability to perform consistently and at a high level for 82 games. This trade is a gamble.

    Pippendagimp,
You are right I meant to say 20 million for Les and 28 against the cap. I do disagree with many of the posters who say this is not a bad injury. It is and that is why even Rice himself is questioning how ready he will be for the season. You can wear a special plastic cup in your shoe to help the injury but only time will heal it and time is not what we have in this situation.

Why so hard on Walt? There are a few players on the team that are worse than Walt and alot of Starters in the NBA
    that are weaker than Walt.

Imagine if the Rice trade falls through, and Rudy decides to start Langhi instead of Walt. The effect on this board would be cataclismic, with all of the moniker changes.
