Man, I wish the Rox could transfer this years number one to next years...

LeBron James wows the Cavs in workout

He's only a high school junior and can't declare for the NBA draft. Still, high school legend LeBron James wowed the Cavs Wednesday in a volunteer workout.

James was invited to the voluntary workouts by coach John Lucas. He competed against Cavs players Bimbo Coles, Chris Mihm, DeSagana Diop, Jumaine Jones and Bryant Stith.

At one point James had such a spectacular dunk that the Cavs were forced to call time out.

"That dunk was so unbelievable that you wouldn't have believed it if you would've seen it on replay," former Raptors assistant Johnny Clark told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I've seen a lot of basketball but I've never seen anything like that."

Former NBA player Willie Anderson said James is the second coming of Kobe Bryant.

"John invited Kobe [Bryant] to work out with us when I was in Philadelphia," Anderson said. "Just like LeBron, Kobe was heading into his senior year and LeBron's the closest thing I've seen next to Kobe at the same age. But LeBron has a little more power and strength than Kobe did. I'm very impressed."

During the workout, he held his own against Jumaine Jones. The 6-foot-7 James slashed to the basket and nailed jumpers from the outside. His play also included a swift shake and dribble around his defender in which he went to the other side of the rim for a quick reverse slam.

"He's the most developed high school player I've ever seen and he has another year of high school," said Jones. "He's very mature physically and mentally. Unlike most high school players, he wants to do more than just score. He likes to get everyone involved. He could play in the league right now."

Most telling, James's play generated this response from Lucas: "We got to have him. We got to have him."

Be forewarned. If the Cavs tank it this season, it's all for a good cause.

Tell me about. I've thinking all night (after reading that ESPN report) how cool it would be to somehow hear our name called again next year at the Lottery podium. I would be very nice for people to talk about an NBA/NBC conspiracy to make the Rockets unbeatable :)

Sorry to burst another of your bubbles, but as it stands that pick would have to be conveyed to Memphis to settle the Steveie Franchise obligations.

Oh man. Today's just not my day. :)

Good point. I was forgetting that Memphis has (so far) turned down our attempt to send them the #15.

AMEN to Juugie because LeBron James is a future league MVP while Yao Ming has way too many ? marks. This is why he Rockets should trade out of #1 and acquie gaurenteed 2003 1st rounders from teams like Golden State, Denver, or Chicago.

So now we're projecting 16 year olds into NBA superstars? Nice.

What's next? Let's starting scouting those 6th graders and figure out who's going to be the next star there!

Well, if you really want to dream, Next year's draft also has the potential to include both the Greek "Baby-Shaq" Sophocles Shortsianitis and the Beaumont, Tx "Baby-Shaq" Kendric Perkins.

I was thinking about this, and came to a conclusion that the league is so much more talented. I can't figure out who'll be the worst team in the league next year. GS now have Jason Richardson, Arenas has developed nicely, and they have a # 3 pick. If they pick Dunleavy, they have a good team:

    Dampier/Foyle
    Jamison
    Dunleavy
    Richardson
    Arenas

They can't be the worst. Neither can Memphis. Gasol and Battier, returning Dickerson, good C, and a Jerry West #4 pick.

Denver is my best bet, but they performed well last year without McDyess even. Now they have an offseason to work in the new players, and also a draft pick.

Chicago? No way. If they pick J-Will, they will come close to playoffs in the East. I'm thinking someone's going to REALLY rebuild (Milwaukee or Minnesota) and then we'll have our temporary worst team.

Lebron James WILL be the number one next year.

    That's not even an opinion.

If Lebron James was in this year's draft, he would be the number one pick. No doubt at ALL. YEARS ahead of Ming. At this stage in their careers, I'd rather have James starting for me than Jay Williams.

He knows what he's doing. He's getting all the right coaching, and in a year, he'll only be better.

I don't think you'll get much argument from anybody about James being the 1st pick.

As far as the worst team, I've got to second the Denver nomination. That's the very reason that I think that they should trade McDyess now. If you're going to suck, then this is the year to do it. You've got the first prize of Jame sitting there, but there's the potential for two or three (if you throw in Okafor) pretty nice consolation prizes.

We don't really know that yet, because we could win the Lottery and Francis could say "Pick James: I am out of here."

And guess what? We still wouldn't have a frontcourt.

I do like this idea of working out players a year in advance, though. It gives you a good idea of how many games to lose.

    LOL. Sad but true...

I'm afraid we won't have a frontcourt if we draft Ming either. He is really a 7'5" small forward.
