Better the devil you know than the devil you know who pretends he's from heaven and gives God a bad name.

I seriously cannot understand how so many so called "conservatives" can be so painfully stupid.

I don't live in fear in a Clinton presidency as its the best option left at this point for the country to at least retain the outward appearance of sanity while keeping the right from going off the deep end.

Clinton won't screw things up beyond the point of repair (not so sure about Obama who seems dangerously incompetent) and at least the right will be angry at the liberalism instead of cheering it on.

    John McCain = Bush X 1000

A McCain presidency would be weak and ineffective, except maybe in military matters. He'd be a lame duck the day he was sworn in and both parties would immediately start angling toward 2012 just like they pointed towards 2008 after Bush was re-elected. For the GOP, McCain beating Hillary would cause a collective "WHEW!" while they plotted their comeback in 4 years. I think people would be very surprised how little influence McCain would have on Congress. This is how "maverick" McCain would be rewarded by the GOP for bucking some of their causes over the years.

If Hillary gets elected, she has a yachtful of loyal cronies ready and waiting to disembark for their turn at the government feeding trough.

I'll vote for McCain just to keep the Clintons out of the White House, but he better select one helluva great running mate(Fred Thompson would be nice). Dude will be 72 when inaugerated and even if he makes it through the entire term, we'll need a reliable Vice Prez in case he's not up to the task of running for reelection.

I just wish McCain weren't such an idiot on illegal immigration. That's the one issue that's making me really uncomfortable with the idea of him getting the nomination.

I can't imagine myself voting for any of the Democrats left, but if the Republicans nominate McCain, there is no chance of me voting for him. I've said it before, but McCain is the biggest enemy of the 1st Amendment in Washington. The rest of the Bill of Rights doesn't fare much better, as he has sponsored major Federal gun control legislation, and has never met a problem that he didn't think the Federal Government had the best solution.

He's a war hero, and he gives lip service to reducing pork, but he's no conservative. And McCain having to stand up for months trying to defend his record will not be pretty.

Conservatives can't take this party back from the neocons soon enough. They are bad for the GOP, and they are bad for America.

Interestingly, the only chance for this crusty old man to win is if Hillary gets the dem nomination.

he's way better than rudy at least. but that's like saying he's not the spawn of satan. i really believe it has to be obama 4 the win to restore my faith in our future. whether he is ready or not is far less imposrtant than what voting him in means.

He didn't say he'd done anything, he said he wanted him as a running mate. I would have voted for Fred in the TX primary if he were still available because he was the only candidate among the GOP who believed that the federal government wasn't the answer to everything. I think Fred was the last hope for those in the GOP who wished for a candidate that believed in a smaller federal government.

I should have said the last hope that we thought could possibly get the nomination. I have no problem with Ron Paul, myself. Most of the GOP establishment doesn't like him though.

Yeah, I have no problem with Ron Paul but if he's going to ever have a shot at a presidential nomination, it'd have to be as a third party candidate. The current GOP is too beholden to other types of constituencies that won't get behind the Ron Paul message.

McCain was my 3rd choice but I would vote for him if he is the nominee.

I disagree he would be ineffective, actually I think he would work with Democrats on several issues like Campaign Finance Reform and Immigration Amnesty (which I dont necessarily agree with).
