Link saying Marbury probably done in NY this year JVG on the draft show said that Marbury could still play, and wondered why the Knicks would get rid of a player that was still productive. Being that we have established veterans and quality work ethic guys, would you be willing to sign Marbury for a very low contract if he is bought out? I am completely on the fence here, as he is a very good player when his head is on right, and would be the best PG on the Rockets by a country mile, but, would taking the risk hurt the chemistry...... I think I would take the shot....for a veteran's minimum type of contract... DD
Hell no! DD do you remember what happened last time Francis and Marbury were on the same team?? We would be NY West and the laughingstock of the league...
Hmmm, good point, but I believe Francis is done....and could be bought out here in Houston..... Marbury is better than Francis, always has been......he is a much better playmaker. The bottom line for me, is that Marbury is a massive upgrade over Rafer and that makes the team better......which is all that matters to me. DD
I say no. their is a reason why everywhere this guy goes, losing follows. he lacks the mental capacity to comprehend the team concept. while he would only command a min salary..you are still dealing with one of the biggest premaddona's the NBA has ever seen. 22 in a row was a product of good chemistry and karma. marbury is its antithesis
These low risk bets haven't worked out much for the Rockets in the last couple of years. I'm referring to Bonzi and Francis both taking up roster spots and having a paid vacation in the first year of their contracts.
I would say yes...if we're talking about equipment manager. NO if we're talking about playing professional basketball.
I disagree that Marbury is a massive upgrade over Rafer. Talent wise yes, but SM's ability to maximise potential has been porous. I doubt Marbury represents much better of a perimeter threat upgrade over RA either. and everywhere he goes - trouble (not to mention losing seasons) seem to follow. i'd seriously rather Rafer than Marbury if I had to pick one or the other on the Rocks. keep the no knucklehead policy and just say NO to Marbury!!
Why would we buy out Francis if he is expiring anyways? I would much rather take a look at Francis before we buy him out when training camp starts.
I've heard it all now. As someone who has blasted Rafer as much as anyone else, you are out of your mind.
No doubt....no doubt. All I am asking is would you take a low risk look at Steph if he is bought out? DD
You think Rafer is better than Marbury? I know he is a knucklehead but Marbury has been much better over the course of his career. Compare: Marbury career 19.7ppg 7.8Apg .434FG% to: Rafer's career 10.1ppg 4.8Apg .386FG% DD
I would, just for the purpose of reuniting him with Francis - they were a magical combination at MSG. Like Clyde and Pearl.
If he does good why not. It just seems to be where ever he goes bad luck follows. If he can be had cheaply sure. I would give him a 1 year contract to prove himself or bye, bye because it would be a contract year for him.
I would imagine "Starbury" would be too spaced out on wacky tobaccy to realise the need to elevate his game because it's a contract year.
Not to mention his legs should of had plenty of rest since he was banned in New York. I dont think he played much last year and it was not because of injury.
We're in a position where we have to talk these chances if the present themselves. Even though some didn't pan out, that is okay because they were low-risk to begin with. I don't agree with DD that I would hand over the starting PG job to him, but to be a backup pt, or insurance for an injury or something, we could a lot worse. Marbury is screwball, but when was the last time he was on a winning team with a chance of competing with other veterans? Answer 98-99 with Minnesota. Since then he has been on bunch of teams full of scrubs that he was supposed to lead. He has shown he cannot be a leader, but here that wouldn't be his role. Here we just need a spark-plug. If we cannot get Magette, Childress, Jones, Posey, or Evans or what not, why not take a chance. Winning cures a lot problems...
How is it even in question whether or not we should offer a minimum contract to a decent former all-star PG? He may not be a great player but for the vets min, it seems like a no brainer to me. I find myself thinking this on alot of these kinds of threads.
