Is 9-7 and a playoff birth . . .enough for you to be satisfied next year? I know it might sound salty . . but for me. . NO! To me . . 9-7 . . even without seeing the schedule would be an underachieving team! If they go 9-7 . . . they better WIN a playoff game! I guess that explains the level of my disgruntledness. If Kubiak is back, I won't be. My interest in the Texans will evaporate until Uncle Bob is no longer the owner.
Ditto. But I'm not even worried about it because Kubiak is a dead coach walking unless he goes to Denver. Uncle Bob has a brain.
Andre Johnson will always be my first round pick in fantasy football though. I'll be an AJ-OF. If I can attend a game, I'll be drunk, show up late, and have a paper bag over my head. I might start that plan on week 17.
Depends on how it goes down, but if McNair treats this exactly how he did when Richard Smith got fired, I'll check out to a degree. I haven't spent a dime on the Astros since they made it crystal clear they didn't care about winning. I won't purchase any Texans merchandise if Kubiak is left large and in charge with a pat on the back. As far as next year, we should be playing (assuming the same system): AFC-S home & away AFC-N (Pit, Cle, @Cin, @Bal) NFC-S (Car, Atl, @NO, @TB) Two teams that also finished in the bottom of their division (possibly Dallas, Detroit, Arizona, Buffalo, or Denver) Not bad, should be at least 5 very winnable games outside the division.
It'll only be AFC teams for the two teams that finish in the bottom of their division. No shot at Dallas untill 2014.
For me it isn't if Kubiak is back but who else is back with him. If they don't hire a legit GM, strong DC and keep Kubes then he better make the playoffs and win a game to justify his tenure. If they bring in a legit personnel guy and DC then if Kubes is falling then the new coach is waiting in the wings.
Maybe not if the new CBA brings in the 18 game format, and McNair and Goodell have talked about more regional rivalry games.
By the sound of it, Kubiak seems to be coaching for his job the last 2 games. Another heartless showing like against Tennessee and I don't see any way Bob can keep him around.
If Kubiak is back you can bank on an 8-8 or 7-9 season and Mcnair saying how close this team is to being "great" and will sign him to another 3yr extension
I think Bob SURELY hears the whispers (screams/yells/cries) around town for a new regime. I'm beginning to think a change will come...might not be Cowher, but a change will come. If it doesn't....hell, I don't know. I can't root for a team representing another city, just can't do it. I am a MONU-fu#@ing-MENTAL Houston supporter and sports fan. It will almost be like when Bud took my Oilers away...I just won't have a damn team, I guess.
IMO, the only way they could justify keeping Kubiak is if these things happen... 1. Fire Rick Smith and bring in a good personnel guy with no previous attachments to Denver. No more projects. No more looking for value in the draft. Draft the best players available. Make real attempts at the best free agents available. 2. Fire Frank Bush and the entire defensive staff. Bring in a top notch D-coordinator and let him pick his staff and players. 3. Fire the Special Teams coordinator. Only Rackers deserves to keep his job. 4. Re-write Kubiak's contract to prevent him from even considering, dreaming about, or mentioning drafting more than 1 TE in any draft. If these things happen, I'll be back next season, too. I'm an addict and I have come to grips with it. I'm addicted to the teams I love regardless of how they're playing.
I honestly don't think there's ANY way to justify keeping Kubiak. I'm not just saying that as a knee-jerk reaction. This team has quit on him and we actually have players getting in fights ON THE FIELD. When is the last time you've seen 2 players on the same team get in a fight and draw a penalty during a game? I can't believe people aren't making a bigger deal about that. It's right up there with the Buddy Ryan punch, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe Texan fans are just so numb that nothing surprises them? Things are too far gone now to even consider keeping Kubiak next year in any capacity. It's time for a complete culture change at Reliant Park. A total reboot, if you will. Of course, if he stays, I will be uber-pissed. But I will still watch. If for nothing else, just for the comedy relief - like this year. I just love football too much to switch teams and/or not pay attention.
I thought I was reading a thread from 2 years ago. I was a Kubiak supporter. It all changed this season. He must go! Will arian foster still be awesome without the zone scheme? This is the only thing that worries me, then again..it's not like we used foster to his full potential.
I was never what could be considered a "Kubiak supporter". From the start, I had serious reservations about the arrogance of his decisions . By arrogance, I am referring to his inability to change course when his decisions and systems don't work. First there was the David Carr debacle: Carr was done, toasted and had the perverbial fork stuck in him and everybody (including my grandmother & DaDakota's grandmother) knew this. Everybody but Kubiak. Then there was the pathetic parade of washed up running backs which led to a pitiful running game until this year when Arian Foster stepped up. Ahman Green, Ron Dayne - well, you get the idea. But the biggest problem has been his defensive teams. The Texans' defensive teams have been abysmal and I'm being kind here: 2006: Defense 31st; 2007: Defense 30th; 2008: Defense 29th; 2009: Defense 20th; 2010: Defense 30th. Pretty bad and it all goes back to the guys at the top. It's not just Kubiak or Uncle Bob - it's everyone over there. From what I read today in the Chron, there are personnel evaluation folks that date from the C&C Idiot Factory days still making decisions. That simply doesn't happen in a winning organization which should explain why they are who (and what) the they have become. The organization itself is broken and no mere change of coaches or GM change is going to be enough to fix this mess. And until this gets corrected, you can expect this team to continue to wallow in mediocrity.
If they make the playoffs, who cares what their record is? Get to the dance, that's all that matters.
If current standings hold, it'll be Buffalo and Denver. It's always the teams that finished in the same place as you in the two AFC divisions you're *not* playing that year. Interestingly, they play five teams that are terrible this year. Hell, you could throw Tennessee in there and make it 7. The easier schedule and higher draft choice might be what finally puts the Texans over the hump (along with a new front office and coaching staff).
