If KT is out, would signing Oakley be a good move?

If the Rockets end up trading Kenny Thomas, then I think they should atleast consider giving Charles Oakley a contract for the minimum. Yes, this would still clog up our PF spot, but Oakley is also very valuable at the center spot, and he would be great insurance in case Cato goes into a funk. He would also be a valuable teacher to Ming. He is an exceptional defender who can also stick the 18-footer with regularity as well. In the past, he's played Shaq very well one-on-one, which would leave Ming to help with weak-side defense, which is his forte. I think Oakley would atleast be worth a one year, $1 million contract. I could see him helping the team in a lot of ways.

Why trade KT unless it's in a package that allows the Rockets to also dump Cato or Rice?

Hey that's actually a pretty good idea.....

You can never have too many teachers....at least I don't think you can.
*thinks about having ten 39-year old players*
    Hmm...maybe you are right. :D

I wouldn't mind it too. much. I don't know much about Oakley, though. I thought I heard he's a guy who could hurt the team, but that may be someone else. I know some people would want an enforcer type and that is definitly Oakley. As long as we don't give up too much or get too little in return, I don't have a BIG problem with this.

No thank you!! Keep dirty players away from our Team. Oakley is also disruptive and a bit passed it! KT is one of our upcoming Stars!

I'm with Yetti. Oak was once a big asset with his big ass, but players with attitude, from all sports, tend to get even more nasty as they age (e.g Ty Cobb, Albert Bell, etc.). Him "teaching" the young guys in Chicago didn't work out too well, so I'd say he wouldn't work with the rocks.

Hmm...I guess I was right about him being a troublemaker. So my opinion changes. :)

IMO, we may do better getting another SG or something like that.

I don't want him teaching Yao jack!!! Why would they sign him, if they didn't sign Kevin Willis? Why would you go from a hard working, weight-lifting old guy, to a foul mouth, slow old guy? Think about it. Huh.

I like Oakley. He became a good shooter (yes, shooter) in Vancouver
when Vince was struggling in his 2nd season. In the last few years Oakley
worked on his jump shot. I was amazed. He would hit 15 footers
all the time. It surley was a change from when he was with Chicago
    and NY.

I wouldn't trade KT for him, though.

We could use Oakley like we used Charles Jones (off the bench).
And hey, if it doesn't work out. Then release him. Nothing gained,
    nothing lost.

Oakely is worthless as a player now.

    I'd rather have Collier.

Exactly what position would he play? Who's minutes would he take? He is too much of a cancer.

Oakley is horrible, on and off the court.

He would rip on Francis and Mobley (justifiably so) from Day 1, like he did with Carter in Tor.

Oakley probably wouldn't want to play for us anyhow, since we aren't in position to win a title.

Signing Oakley under any circumstances is BAD NEWS! Screw Oakley, we don't need him. Willis was a far better player then him anyway. The last thing I need is to read on a news report that that old b*stard did something to Cat or Stevie or Eddie or something. Oakley is a thug and a punk and every day he doesn't have a ring is another day I live in bliss. I hate Charles Oakley as much as Anti-Sonic hates the SuperSonics. Say NO to Charles Oakley!

I agree with you, so how bad must Oakley be to want Collier over him?

B-Bob pointed out that he didn't get along well with the younger players in Chicago, and Kidrock8 is right he would want to go to a veteran club where he might have a chance to win more games.
