If it keeps going like this...

If it keeps going like this, with TMac apparently magically healthy again, and playing like the best player on the court again, what happens when Yao comes back?

Heh and I am NOT talking about the silly question of how the two will co-exist together on the court - that question was settled a long time ago.

I am talking about what happens at the end of the year, when the voters have to determine who was the MVP of this year.

It could very well have been Yao, before the broken knee.

And now, if TMac keeps this going the rest of the year, it could very well wind up being McGrady, ESPECIALLY if the Rox make some serious noise in the playoffs. But when Yao comes back healthy and hungry from the break, it could still be him.. LOL

    Wouldn't that be something?

To have two Rockets players finish #1 and #2 in the MVP voting? :)

Has that ever even happened before, with any team? Maybe Magic and Kareem? I dunno, but it sure would be sweet if it was Yao and TMac.

Dude, Yao is gonna miss 24 games he aint gonna finish 1st or 2nd in the MVP

T-Mac has a shot if he does this the rest of the year without missing time.

Yao will have his year, but this is not it.

Playoffs have no bearing on the MVP voting. It's all based on regular season performance.

I know the spirit is high now, but Tmac mentioned hes going back to Waco to visit the doctor again, that is not a good signal. Plus, huge pressure on the guy who just got back from his long-injuried back, another thing to worry about. I am not trying to spoil anything but we need to hold a low-tune until Tmac is really 100% fully recovered. For the team, I cheer for them for every game, win or lose, as guys are clearly fighting hard against every opponent.

I know that, it's always been a terrible flaw in the system.

Maybe this is the year they have to change it.. ;)

And if Yao comes back with, say, 6 weeks to go in the season and completely dominates again, and leads us on a big roll heading into the playoffs, I don't see any reason to believe Yao would not still get serious consideration as MVP. Ideally, the best scenario would be for it to be TMac #1, and Yao #2 (but heck, even top 5 would be nice, considerating his time away this season).

It's been over ten years now, we need another banner here, dang it!

no its fine that he is going back to the doctor imo. its been about 2 weeks since his first meeting and it could just be a follow up and another treatment session to stregthen his muscles. more than likely its probably a follow up appointment. everyone has them after going through a major procedure.

some of you seriously need to get your feet back on the ground. this team is playing well but they are playing some weaker competition and it has been at home. the last 3 games have been tough and could have all 3 instead of 2, but that is a good sign. i was afraid that this team could not stay above or around .500 till yao came back and this very well could be the case with some really tough teams the rest of this month.

Tracy's return to Waco is part of the treatment. It wasn't a one time thing, you have a series of visits to the Wacko in Waco before you are "healed". This was stated in one of the first articles about Patterson, but I can't find it now.

I hope that Tmac can keep up the streak. Someone asked me at the beginning of the season if I thought tmac was going to average 20ppg this season... :) I am proud to say I told him of course!

If we can end up being the 4th or 5th seed at the end of the season would that be enough to get him the nod as MVP? Cause that is probably the best we could do. Unless that new rule pushes us to number 3.

Given the way Dallas has been playing, I think it'll be a moot issue. Right now Dirk is the clear frontrunner for MVP. Not that I'd vote for him...

There's a season mvp and a playoff aka finals mvp. As long as T-mac or Yao get thhe finals mvp it's all good. And by the way im glad mcgrady is going back to Waco. As of now it seems like that doctor knows what he's doing so let him check that back regulary (dont know how you write that word).

This is the last thing on my mind. Let's get the wins first. We have another 20 games to play without Yao. Let's talk then. If we lose 12 or more games, the point is moot.

It's a great problem to have.

it's alright, we are talking about tmac, not kobe. Yao and Tmac don't care abut their personal stats.

Good to know. Tmac is really going back to his old self and hes got to be the same guy to carry the team for the looooong stretch without Yao. I am sure when Yao's back he will be more than happy to take the pressure from Tmac and start shredding other teams. Then we are gold for playoffs (if JVG figures out a way to win over Suns and Mavs).

Because of injuries neither Yao or Tracy will win the MVP this year, but our Rockets are gonna win it all.

    Bingo!

Screw the individual accolades, I am sure both of them and the entire city AND China would trade it all for a downtown parade come June (I am sure China would have a parade as well, I am just not sure where it would be held...downtown Shanghai may be? That would be beautiful :D )

If T-Mac keeps playing like this while Yao is gone, then no matter what happens when he comes back (within reason), not only would McGrady be an MVP candidate - he would be THE MVP.

If he didn't get it, the award would be a crock this year. But I have agreed with the last few, so I don't think that will happen. McGrady will get it if he deserves it.

pessimist......with regards to the MVP if we keep up this winning pace and he continues to play like he has (not just scoring all facets of the game) the MAC deserves the MVP.....i thought we could float around .500 w/o yao but we are doing much more than that.........keep it up t-mac! :D

Not really. Dirk's stats aren't really up. Some are slightly. But then his scoring is down. So are his minutes. I think it'd be hard to give a guy an MVP when his stats aren't any better than the prior year in which is team went to the Finals, and, even though the regular season record is awesome right now, the guy is actually playing fewer minutes than normal.

I think Dirk is a top 5 MVP candidate every year. He may be the most uniquely talented player in basketball.

But I think the frontrunner for MVP right now is probably Gilbert Arenas.
