I end the Schaub experiment immediately. I do not bother with re-treads like Smith or Flacco. Too much money, not enough impact. I draft a QB ASAP, possibly multiple. If I have to, I trade up in the draft. I give Kubiak an ultimatum, learn to run an uptempo offense and/or learn to design an offense around a more dynamic QB... or GTFO. I give him 3 years to meet this ultimatum. If by the end of that time things have not progressed, I pull the plug. Wade Phillips can stay, but I'm not considering him for HC if Kubiak flames out. Joe Marciano's things will be boxed up and sitting outside of his office after the plane gets back to Houston.
You're talking about a guy who gave an extention to a Kubes after 5 years of meh. Enjoy the battlefighting!
the problem is this is not how mcnair will see the texan's loss. To him we gave a great effort and this is the beginning of something special, next year we will make it to the AFC championship. That's what a losing culture gives you.

I agree that the Schaub era needs to end but the problem we're in is that it would be near impossible to get a quarterback who's marginally better. Our team is prepared to win NOW, so getting a rookie quarterback might not be the smartest thing. Either way we're stuck.
Wait wait lol. You post a thread about getting all tough on Kubiak and then say he has three years to figure it out? ROFL That actually does sound like something Bob would do. And then after that come up with another strategy and give him 3 more years to figure THAT one out.
3 years to prove himself with a new QB? Shaub and Kubiak seemed to be attached at the hip, I'd cut them both.
Pretty much this. If you're gonna get rid of one, you might as well get rid of both. Schaub is a quarterback for Kubiak's system.
You don't think "design an entirely new offense/qb or you're fired" is tough? Kubiak is a good offensive coach, but if he cannot come up with something else or groom a new QB, I'm not retaining him. It would be stupid to not give him the chance to prove he can do it, though. He's earned that, at the very least. If he goes with a new QB (undoubtedly this would happen if we change systems), I think 3 years to judge the change is fair. If for some strange reason Kubiak tries to run a new offense with Schaub and it fails hardcore, of course I wouldn't give him 3 years.
This QB class is weak. We either trade for a solid QB like Alex Smith, or cough Vick & roll the dice there. Its dumb to think we'll win with a rookie QB next yr.
with you Donny, but the $$ impact next year might prevent it. I believe he's guaranteed next year, so I think that's $10 mil out of his pocket unless they find a willing trade partner. After next year, it becomes a cap issue but not a real $$ issue much, so I think realistically, they kind of have to roll the dice with Schaub one more year. Sad to say it, but I'm suddenly realizing that means pretty much no change this offseason
Draft a QB. If he can force his way into playing time, so be it. If not, let him sit and develop. When he's ready to take over, cut Schaub if it makes financial sense. Unfortunately, Schaub is under contract. Yates (who will never be a starter) has a few years left as well. Neither is getting cut this year and Kubes isn't using an extra roster spot to carry 3 QBs. So yeah, any way you cut it, we're stuck. I don't think we start trying to draft Schaub's replacement until 3 drafts from now.
Alex Smith makes a lot more money than Colin Kaepernick. Matt Flynn makes a lot more money than Russell Wilson. And so on. Time to draft someone and let Schaub hold a clipboard until he can be unloaded somehow.
