Lets see, LAC with the #1 pick, MEM with the #2 pick, OKC with the #3 pick. Ricky has a high buyout for this season but not so much next. I keep his name in the draft, but start spreading rumors about him not coming over this season to see if someone like NY would trade up for him. In the worst case that one of those 3 picks him, then he'll actually stay overseas for a year, that would force those teams to trade him. Ricky actually has lots of power this season, more than he would next year, he can justify staying over there because of his high buyout.
He should call the Clippers and Grizzlies and force a #1 for #2 trade. Clippers doesn't need another PF; Rubio can't be stuck in Memphis. On the other hand, I can see the Clippers trading away BDiddy to make room for Rubio.
I don't see NY trading up for him, they're all about reloading in 2010..so they're not going to take on any contracts before then. They also have no first round pick next year. Hell if I were the Knicks I might trade the #8 this year for a lower pick next year, because this draft kind of sucks, don't it?
The Clippers do need another PF, Camby sucks, and Griffin is a more sure fire franchise talent than Rubio. Not only that, I'd rather play in Memphis than the Clippers if I were Rubio. I get to play with Gay, Mayo and Gasol instead of B-diddy, Kaman and Camby. And I can start over Conley JR because he sucks, while B-diddy can show flashes of greatness form time to time
Blake Griffin will be the no.1 pick. Then comes the drop off. If Rubio goes to Memphis those past trade talks involving Conley to Portland might finally happen.
If Memphis drafts Rubio, what are they gonna do with Conley, who has started to play up to his draft position after they traded Lowry? Maybe we can trade Lowry back to them for Conley.
If the Grizzlies draft Rubio and also trade Conley this summer, they are stupid. Rubio isn't ready for the NBA.
The real endgame is Rubio to Fakers via Memphis. Jerry West didn't built a dyansty with the Grizzlies but he sure got himself a minor league in place.
What I'm saying is that Rubio's agent should do what Yi's agent tried a couple of years ago: guide his client to a team with a good situation. LAC is where careers go to die, they've got the worst owner/management/coach in the league. Memphis looks like they'll be folding/relocating soon enough and they have a terrible owner and employ Chris Wallace as the GM. I know Memphis has a relationship with Spain because of the Gasols and Navarro but they are now in a real unstable situation. Look at the way they treated Conley and Lowry, you don't want Rubio going into that kind of situation. OKC is an up and coming team, but if Rubio goes there he's splitting time with Westbrook, who had an impressive rookie campaign. The best thing for Rubio would be for Sac or NYC to trade up with Memphis and end up there.
jennings says rubio is overrated. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2009/news/story?id=4255421 Jennings not impressed with Rubio Comment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services Brandon Jennings won't be joining the Ricky Rubio fan club anytime soon. The promising point guard who skipped college in order to play professionally in Europe was quick to call out Spanish international and fellow hot-shot prospect Rubio for being overhyped, SI.com reports. Brandon Jennings averaged 7.6 points and 1.6 assists in Euroleague action this season. "Yes. Because he played in the Olympics, he's been playing pro ball since he was like 14. So there it is right there," Jennings was quoted as saying. "I can't wait to play him, though, in summer league. I'm just letting you know that now. I can't wait. "Yeah, I think I'm a better player than he is," Jennings told reporters after working out for the Sacramento Kings Friday. "I just shoot the ball better than he can. The only thing I've seen him do sometimes is when he has a home-run pass or something like that. I think the dude is just all hype. I can't even front. I'm just going to be real with you guys." Jennings also feels there's a number of young playmakers more capable than the Spanish teenager. "Well, put it like this: If he was in a workout with me [and fellow point guard prospects] Jonny Flynn, Jrue Holiday, Tywon Lawson, Stephen Curry, he wouldn't probably be at the top," he was quoted as saying in SI.com. When asked about their head-to-head matchup last year, the 6-2 Jennings boasted, "Well, when I played him, he had zero points, two assists and two turnovers. So you tell me how that went." Records of the game from the Euroleague's official Web site showed Rubio went scoreless with three assists and three turnovers in just nine minutes of play. Jennings posted 12 points and two assists in Lottomatica Roma's 97-93 loss to Rubio's DKV Joventut. In his latest mock draft projections, ESPN.com's Chad Ford has Rubio being taken third by the Oklahoma City Thunder and Jennings going to the Phoenix Suns with the 14th pick.
