So with all the Brett Favre returning to GB hubabub, I was wondering how everyone would feel if he had gone to one of our rivals instead of Toronto. I just threw up in my mouth picturing Dream in Spurs, Mavs, or Jazz jersey

With Favre, I really dont think its that big of a deal. He wanted to play and get revenge bc the Packers moved on and didnt want him. Obviously, if I had the the same emotional investment in Favre that I have in Dream my feelings would be different. Would you hate Dream if he had gone to one of your hated teams??

I wouldn't hate Dream, of course, but that team would skyrocket far beyond the degree to which I had ever hated them before.

I don't think you could compare the two. As much as I hate the way Favre went abou the situation, there is no dnying he's still playing at a very high level (For now).
Dream on the other hand was visibly in decline, his addition could not have turned any team into a contender. To me it was a money move for Hakeem, and I don't blame him. He will always be remember by everyone as a Rocket great.

I would be extra pissed at Rockets management. Sweet let Hakeem go to Seattle or Utah so we can sign Mo Taylor. GREAT idea.

Favre's waivering and lack of professionalism in making his retirement decision(s) forced the Packers to move along without him. That BS alone would cause ill will towards him. No player is ever bigger than the franchise.

Some people may have forgotten but Karl Malone was lobbying for Hakeem to come to the Jazz. He mentioned Hakeem can still play and experienced firsthand the pride, the relentlessness of the man. Karl was also put off by the Houston Guards (Francis, Mobley, Moochie) waiving off Hakeem when he pinned his man in the post, so they can drive to the basket. As an aside, let this be known: when a player is in the post and has his man pinned and has a decent inside game (Battier, Anderson, Landry, Scola....not Chuck, not Dorsey), you pass it to him ALL the time. A pure perimeter team is a mediocre one.

I think you can compare the them. Yeah, the two situations are different because the reason GB didnt want to keep Favre was because he kept flip flopping in his decision, but ultimately Favre wanted to play and GB wanted to move on with the younger guy. Hakeem wanted to keep playing and remain the focal point of the offense, while the Rockets did not feel that way.

I think most GB fans are upset with Favre that he went to their biggest rival in Minnesota, not that he left to go play elsewhere. Would you feel Hakeem is a traitor if he went to the jazz (if they wanted him while we didnt)? Id hate the situation, but i dont think id hate him for it.

    I could never hate Hakeem.

The things that he did for the Houston Rockets would have FAR outweighed the fact that he went to a rival... had he gone to one.

If dream ever went to a rival team I would have just blocked it out of my memory. Like when sf3 supposedly got traded, both times, I still contest that never happened.

I see what you're getting at, I just don't think Dream would go to a rival just to smite the organization or city. Favre made it clear why he went to the Vikings.

I think people hold athletes to a much higher standard than they hold themselves. If your employer told you that you were too old and washed up to do your job, would you not also go somewhere else if they really want you? How many of you would not go to a competitor if they just offered you a raise? Athletes are people too and the opportunity to extend your career doing something you love is nothing to be ashamed of.

No way I would have ever boo'd the Dream. I was actually hoping if he didn't come back(which he didn't) that he would be Shaq's backup in LA. I knew his starting days were done on any other team and that he couldn't play the amount of minutes a starter would be asked to. As a backup in a Laker uniform, it would have been hard to watch but I would always have cheered on the Dream. People forget b/c they just look at his final stats in Toronto but when he was healthy he was still an above average center. With less minutes he might not have gotten injured so much and could have been LA's Deke. An extra ring in '02 and he may have been able to help the Lakers past the Spurs in '03. An aging Hakeem and prime Shaq vs. an aging DRob and prime Duncan, very well could have been a 4 peat if they get past Dallas in the WCF which never seemed to be a problem for them. Still would have hated the Lakers, I would have just been cheering on the Dream, my favorite player of all time! That will never change!

Favre and Dream are two different scenarios, Favre went to the Vikings on his own, Dream was traded to Toronto. Why would you hate Dream even if he went to a rival? Does he have a say to where he would be traded? If he ended up in Jazz blame Alexander and CD for trading him in the first place.

More importantly people who hate a player for going to so and so hold athletes to much higher standards then they do themselves and are nothing but hypocrites. The team that gets rid of a player obviously doesn't want him, why the hell would you hate someone for going to another team? What was he supposed to do, cry at home all day? The fact that Hakeem didn't hold it against the organization for trading him instead of letting him retire as a Rockets speaks of the man's character more than anything else, and that Les Alexander and CD are coldhearted bastards.

If I was working at citibank and I got axed I'd definitely go over to HSBC and stick it to my old company, and I highly doubt any of you wouldn't do the same.

I think Favre would still be playing for the Packers if he didnt "retire" the first time, if he said im going to play next season the next day their season is over, the packers still would have Favre. but he decided to go, and the Packers moved on, because he was retired. Like the Jets, if Favre said Im playing other year, they would keep him as the QB, but he didnt, so they moved on, and many people think Favre just wants to skip training camp by doing that.

And hakeem wanted to keep playing, but the rockets wanted to go other way in their offense system. I would never booed him.

So they are two different scenarios for me.

its like with Rudy T, I couldnt booed him even when he was with the lakers, I hate the lakers, but I couldnt hate Rudy for being there.
