i was wondering if we do end up drafting yao ming and i hope we do, do yall think he will/should get the start over cato?
Cato will probably start the season as the Rockets' starting center. After Ming has a chance to get adjusted to the NBA, he'll eventually be worked into the starting lineup by around the All-Star break (a la Michael Olowakandi his rookie year).
That's about what I was thinking too. Give him half a season. I'm confident that he can comfortably start by then. And in my opinion, that should be enough to quell concerns about him being a project and unable to help the team win this year. It would be nice if Glen Rice could start off the season on fire, and then Yao start making his presence felt once Glen starts to cool off.
In an eight man rotation, Ming will be the second man off the bench after Griffin. Look for 9 plus points per game, 3 blocked shots, and 9 rebounds, plus Rookie of the Year. He should be starting around the Xmas holidays as Cato goes out with an ankle sprain. He'll put on another 30 lbs and extend the paint 3 feet. He'll develop a hook shot no one can defend. Plus mind swoggle O'Neal. Winning will win over Francis and Mobley. Look for the Rockets to pick up another shooting guard via trade or the # 37 pick as Norris becomes expendable. Remember "lean, mean, young, and tall". Mo T gives up smoke and cinnamon crispas upon meeting Ming and becomes a new man. Kenny T goes, as does Williams, Willis, Collier, and Langhi. I'm tapped. No more revelations tonight. This will have to do.
I talk a lot about how long it will take Ming to develope, by I think he might be able to start at the begining of the season, if he could be here for our training camp. But since he'll only be here 2 weeks before the season starts, it will probably take him at least half a year to learn the offense and get adjusted. Damn, if only this were an odd number year.
