Will he bring Trey Lance too? If Indy trades up and pick Bryce Young, is CJ Stroud and Will Levis that much better than Trey Lance? And is trading #34 and another pick worth it?
I'd prefer it if he brings Jimmy G with him. Jimmy would be able to help Mills along too - not with the intention of making him the starter, just the backup. I hope Ryans brings a better QB coach too - and Oline coach and OC. It's going to be interesting to see which coaches he does bring in. Assuming he becomes our HC, which I think he will.
SF looks like they're going to need more QBs...not less....after Purdy's injury and the prognosis. I don't imagine Lance is getting traded.
I think DeMeco could bring out the best in Stingley, Pitre, Harris, and all the other young explosive defenders we have. If you were to add another dynamic defender at the top of the draft I feel that side of the ball could be close to elite sooner and give fans SOMETHING to cheer on while the offense is put together.
Obviously, the Purdy injury completely changes the 49ers offseason. But in the event Trey Lance *is* made available - and *especially* if the rumor SF wants a 3rd for him is true (the Texans have two of those) - the Texans should absolutely, positively jump all over him. Imagine the Texans coming away from this draft with Anderson or Carter + the highest-ranked WR left at 12 + 2 more prospects among the top 73. And then add Lance to that haul. That's a hell of a draft. And then you factor in 3 of the top ~50 prospects from next year's draft. If the Texans could dump the entirety of their draft surplus on non-QBs - essentially adding 7 of the top 60 prospects in the next two drafts - that would be ideal.
Agree with this or something like it. A journeyman QB for a couple of years and build the trenches. I would pick Carter or Anderson at 2. Best Available at DL, OL, or WR at 12. Depending on how deep this draft is with DL and OL, I wouldn’t be opposed to trading back for more picks this year and next. Hopefully, we can find some treasures in the FA market on the OL, Linebacker, or DL depending on what we draft. The Texans are in a great position to hasten this re-build, just hope they don’t blow it. I think Bryce Young will be a great QB early in a very short career, unless he lucks into one of the best pass blocking offensive lines in the league.
When you put it like this, this is very intriguing. IF and IF you can get Lance for a 3rd I think you have to do it. Just look back at what the 49ers gave up to draft him. That talent doesn't disappear overnight. Yes there are question marks, but if you can get him for a 3rd rounder and you aren't in love with Young or Stroud, then you pull the trigger.
I'd take a flyer on Lance over any of the QBs in this draft. I'd give them a the Cleveland pick if that's what it takes. Lance to me is a better prospect than anyone in this draft,
I don't see them cutting bait with Lance now given the cost they incurred to obtain him in the first place and now that Purdy turned back into Brock Purdy.
You hope your QB will be a mediocre guy that will get injured a month or two into the season because he'd help your bad backup QB become a mediocre backup QB (and then your starter when Jimmy gets hurt)?
I agree…give them a Cleveland pick so we can figure out if Lance is it. Still not sure that will be enough given Purdy’s injury. Gosh, that was bad timing for us as Texans fans!
How did Purdy turn back into Brock Purdy? But yeah, they are likely to keep Lance at this point if Purdy's injury is as serious it looks like it might be.
It’s only a six month injury. Lance could still get traded. I think trading a third round pick for him is worth the risk.
If he doesn't need surgery. Still possible. No way the Niners risk not having a QB with this injury. Lance isn't going anywhere. We are talking about Tommy John surgery type of injury.
