If Avery Johnson were still coaching, the Mavs wouldn't be down 3-1 against Spurs

With all the $$$ Mark Cuban endlessly throws out there, he STILL cant hide the fact he made a HUGE mistake firing Avery Johnson. Rick Carlisle?s a slightly above average coach but he simply doesn't have the fire Avery had. Also benching Carlos Butler for the 4th quarter of game 3 was terrible. The Mavs are going to lose this series, and as a Rockets fan I cant help but enjoy watching they're ship sink yet another year

There's that, and the constant tinkering of the roster.

The players were sick of Avery Johnson, they had started tuning him out. He wouldn't have even had them in the position to be the #2 seed in the west this year.

    Also, it's Caron Butler.

You're right. It's not like Johnson lost to the Hornets and Warriors in back-to-back first round appearances.

Carlisle is a VERY good coach. I would take him over Avery Johnson by far. After the Mavs gagged game 3 against the Heat in 2006 and lost 4 in-a-row, then got pummeled by the Warriors in the 1st round the next year with AJ having no clue what to do, I can't see why anyone would have confidence he could prevent the Mavs from being down 3-1.

There is a reason AJ hasn't gotten a coaching job since then. He is not a hot commodity.

This is a well-known fact. The players were sick and tired of listening to AJ and confronted Cuban about it.

The Queen can suck on this embarrassing performance by the mavs.

RIght now, it is far more enjoyable playing the draft lotto game on espn.com than watching the mavs get their asses handed to them.

Oh, and I hate cuban for firing Avery simply because I have to hear his voice through my TV. Terrible. Are they going to let Stan Van Gundy be an analysts if he gets fired. Please, no.

Yea, the same coach who won coach of the year and took his team to the finals. I wonder how many 1st round exits Jerry Sloan has

as much as i hate the mavs, they do have a better group of players this year than they have had in the past.

the trade with washington was a good one for them.

having said that, i hope they lose.

It's simple, the guys from the trade aren't exactly fitting in to their new role, and their style of play isn't match up well with the spurs, but the real probelm is that you don't want to change anything this late

And what exactly makes Rick Carlisle VERY good??? How many COY's has he won? How many times has been to the finals again??? Avery had less talent and had his team playing better defense

Carlisle was the coach of the 2004 Pacers, which were a damn good team before the Brawl occured, for starters. And I don't think there's a huge talent gap between the Mavs of then and the Mavs of now.
And he did win the CoY, btw. Get your facts straight.

So your whole argument for him being a better coach is going to the finals and winning a coach of the year award, all in the same season?

You don't happen to realize that he had (in everyones' eyes) the best team in the league that year with the MVP and was poised to win a championship, BUT they didn't.

That my friend is the real Choke City.

No correction, Choke city is having the most talented team this year (w/ home court advantage) and still being down 3-1 in the first round. This years team is CLEARLY more talented than any of Avery's teams

he's brought a team back from a 3-1 deficit (when he was coaching the pacers) & he's been in the playoffs something along the lines of 7 out of 8 seasons?

And what makes you say Avery didn't have any talent? He had Josh Howard playing at his best back then plus D. Harris along with Dirk and Terry.

Um, wut? Can you explain how this team is that much superior to the team that was subject to the most humilating NBA Playoff defeat ever?

    Kidd (hall of famer)
    Marion
    Dirk
    Butler
    Terry
    Haywood & dampier

Not only do they have a more talented team, butl they're interior defense is better than any other year. Dallas has no excuses for not playing defense this year. They lack that fire from the Avery days. Benching Butler in the 4th quarter was a critical mental mistake carisle made. Very van gundyish
