Nah he's gone this year, the money he's commanding to play 15 minutes a game for a backup is a luxury we're in win now mode IF TJones continues to play the way he's. Morey can go for the best available player instead of worrying about position, we need a versatile two way player Iguodola sort of wing would be my preferred player. use the MLE to sign back up to play those spot minutes could be Camby or Okafor would be ideal.
I think is likely the case. It is very rare for players to just accept getting moved from backup to starter, Jeremy Lin being a rare exception. I doubt Asik has enough face in the Rockets organization that they are so well positioned to win a championship for him to stay around as Dwight's backup.
Asik should be fortunate to have Howard coming here because he won't get embarrassed by fumbling and not catching damn ball a lot. He should stay and accept role and I think he's starting to accept the role.
Asik + I. Canaan to Atlanta for Dennis Schroeder + rights to Lucas Noguiera Schroeder is Rondo-esque playmaking + defense without the absent offense. Guy can score and shoot. Noguiera is raw but length, athleticism and agility is real. Downside = project-ish. I doubt Ferry will part with Schroeder though, he's that good.
still need to improve perimeter defense Garcia body language on the court has been making me sick since the first 4 games of the season not making his open shot (some are not even close) keep trying to take rebound from Howard causing turnover just staring at his defense assignment and not paying attention what's around him
What Asik has accepted is that the Rockets aren't going to trade him just accommodate him, they need something of value in return. They only get something of value if Asik is playing and other teams don't think they can pick the Rockets' pocket just so that they can rid themselves of an expensive benchwarmer.
You can't be serious. He was compared to Rondo pre-draft, but just cause he is compared to him doesn't mean he will be Rondo. Marcus Morris was compared to Paul Pierce in college... Randy Foye was compared to Dwyane Wade.... Bismack Biyombo was the next Ben Wallace.... I can go on and on for days...
Im not sure who we could target but I would like to get a 6th man who can come in, score and play some defense. Only problem is Jeremy Lin right now is our 6th man but he doesnt really help our defense when he comes in.
I am not sure that "the Rockets need to get rid of unhappy Asik" factor really matters much. There will be multiple teams who can use Asik, so the "winning bidder" will have to beat out the offers made by the other teams and they will need to make bids according to how much Asik can help them, regardless of whether how much Asik helps Houston.
The fact is Asik was always going to be traded if Morey found a deal that he thinks will add wins, and he probably will be able to.
Why does the money even matter that much? The team is well under the luxury tax line so it isn't like Les can't afford the salary. In fact, Les is paying Scola $7M+ a year for 3 years NOT to play a single minute for the Rockets.
If Asik is playing less than 20 minutes a game you can get same production from a cheaper player. At the same time adding depth elsewhere on the team. You dont need two dominating defensive centers to win,at least not at that cost.
I don't know why so many people worry about how much Asik is getting paid to be a bench player when Morey is not worried about it. To have a top 10 Center as a backup is a luxury when most teams can't get a better starter. The only thing I worry about Asik is his attitude and team chemistry. If he had changed his attitude and the team had expressed that they want him to stay. It's win-win for the Rockets.
Trade Asik he is not that good, and has become overrated by this board. People say Dwight has no offensive game but Asik is even worse on offense. He doesn't do anything better than Dwight except shoot ft's and the margin is not that wide. Also do you guys really think Asik is gonna be happy here longterm as the backup? Don't let the Turkan fool you. He will ask for a trade again soon.
My thing is when you have other needs having a great back up center is not a "luxury". You need better perimeter defense,if we have to trade Asik to get some of that im all for it. Asik is going to play less than 20 minutes a game, We need to use Asik to bring in depth elsewhere. Honestly look at the 2 teams that have been in the finals for the last 5 years, any of them have a great backup center? No,In playoffs Asik will be getting about 13 minutes a game, that money is better served elsewhere and Morey knows it. Asik will be traded when the right deal comes along.
