If a 7'6" stiff can do this, how about a 7'6" SF doing this?

    From dallas mavs forum,
Shawn Bradley during the 2001 year had a respectful season

    2001 Shawn Bradley Rankings

Ranked #3 in the NBA in Blocks Per Game(2.87)
Ranked #1 in the NBA in Blocks(195.0)
Ranked #9 in the NBA in Defensive Rebounds Per 48 Minutes(10.6)
Ranked #11 in the NBA in Rebounds Per 48 Minutes(14.3)
Ranked #1 in the NBA in Blocks Per 48 Minutes(5.55)

Thats pretty impressive, just shows ya what height can do for ya. Now add some speed, ball handling, decent post game and a shooter's touch and what do we have?

    Yao Ming!!!!!

this season can't start soon enough or NBA 2K3 for xbox can't come soon enough!!!!

Can you tell me why everyone says Bradley is a bust?

I think its because he was built up to be the next best center. I'm not sure about this because I wasn't watching basketball when he was drafted. His numbers are ok, at best, but he's no great. I also think he's quit trying, so that hurts him as well.

    That's why I think he's called a bust.

edit: He also hasn't really improved, to my knowledge, so he's a bust. He was probably picked on potential, but he hasn't gotten anywhere near his "potential."

Everytime I see Bradley's stats it's kind of a jolt. Especially considering how bad most centers in the NBA are now. I've seen Bradley hurt the Rockets on occasion, but I still always shake my head everytime I see him play. I could be mistaken, but I recall there was more doubt about Bradley when he came into the league than there has been about Yao Ming, but not near the amount of coverage Yao has gotten, so the negative remarks are interspersed with raves that I don't remember Bradley getting.
I think because of his height it just annoys me he doesn't have a shot to rely on. We really do have different expectations of guys that are exceptionally tall. That's why when Jordan was a pup and could jump over the moon it wasn't a big deal when he missed dunks, but when Yao Ming misses one, guys try to laugh him out of the arena. But despite whatever height prejudice I might have Bradley is just painful for me to watch. His body is so gangly and he just looks so uncoordinated. And what bothers me even more, he always looks like he doesn't know what to do, especially on the offensive end.
That being said his numbers as a center aren't bad at all in this day and age, even if he can't shoot. And his height is always a factor. He's just so unimpressive to watch. When I finally got to see Yao Ming play at the WBCs I drooled. The Bradley comparisons are just mindless.

The only way he hurt the Rockets is when he injured Barkley and he had to be sidelined for a while... ;)

Bradley & Utah's Mark Eaton both hurt the Rockets more than other teams, because Hakeem always had trouble with big centers that couldn't move!! Hakeem would fake a couple of times, but Bradley & Eaton would still be there with there arms raised. Why?? Because they were too slow to respond to the fakes. Hakeem was left with a bad shot, a pass off or a 3 second violation.

David Robinson on the other hand was almost as quick as Tha Dream. When Hakeem came back after the fakes, Robinson wasn't there & a wide open shot was available. Wasn't that Spurs playoff series great to watch!?! :D

I hate how people like to say Ming is the next Bradley..

Bradley sucks because he spent 2 years on a Mormon mission, just before entering the NBA Draft. Meaning that he was drafted #2 overall, in spite of not playing competitive basketball for 2 years.

The Chinese Basketball Association is a hell of a lot better than whatever "streetball" Bradley played during his 2 years in Australia.

I think kr8 is refering to the Mormon sabatical he took for 2 years in Australia after attending BYU. kr8 was being facetious about Bradley actually gaining any basketball experience while in Australia.

That's not an excuse. David Robinson had to fulfill his Navy commitment after he was drafted. Robinson came into the NBA and became an all-star.

The funny thing is, I remeber some people raved about Bradley's athletic ability. They were debating whether the Warriors should draft Webber or Bradley. Some people said that a muscular PF comes in almost every year. But you seldom find a 7-6 kid "who has athletic ability." The highlight film we saw was Bradley took the ball in a break. He dribled the lenght of the floor and slam it down at the end. That play reminded a lot of people of none other than Ralph Sampson!

Dream had major troubles playing vs. Bradley. Doesn't anyone remember about 50 threads on the BBS at that time about Hakeem trouble vs. Bradley and Ostertag?

Some of his worst performances came vs. stick man Bradley.

I remember just prior to the draft on ESPN, one of their analysts (re: I'm so happy to have this job, can you believe I get paid for this?) commented that Yao and Bradley are worlds apart: the former is a true basketball player who loves the game and works to improve; the latter plays because he's tall, just makes the money, never tries to improve....i.e., Yao is a player, Bradley is a bum.

In fact, one summer, maybe after his first year in the league, Bradley came back to the 76ers (am I correct? I don't remember which team drafted him) having done nothing basketball-wise. He had only done missionary work and proselytyzed and all that.

Now, that's all fine and good for Shawn Bradley to go out and convert, but obviously he's no gym rat, a 7'6" goober-smacker.

(sigh) A multi-millionaire, just because he's tall. Me with my normal pituitary: I was always taller than my other classmates but I stopped when I hit 6'2". (double sigh)
