I was just watching 'Around the Horn' on ESPN.

They were discussing whether Yao Ming deserves the ROY Award -- this is the day after Yao's 20 pts/8 rebs in a win over Phoenix -- and I just have to say that Kevin Blackistone and Woody Paige are idiots!

Blackistone and Paige said that Yao did not deserve ROY b/c Yao had hit the rookie wall and that Stoudemire had better stats across the board. If they had been following Yao's progress, they wouldn't have made such asanine and ignorant statements.

Yao did hit the rookie wall at some point in the season, but he has gained his second wind and his numbers reflect that. And Yao has better numbers than Stoudemire in PPG, APG, BPG, FG% and FT%!

Thank you to Jay Mariotti for defending Yao by pointing out Yao's stats and for rightfully asserting that Yao deserves the ROY Award. Thanks also to J. A. Adande, who also supported Yao for ROY. Blackistone and Paige should do their homework before making idiots of themselves on national television.

Note to Max: Get Ryan and Cowlishaw back ASAP. They actually support their positions with facts.

Seriously, please stop giving this show ratings so ESPN can put something better on. Anything better...bowling, World Series of poker, you get the idea.

    you guys are crazy.

Around the Horn is one of the best shows on ESPN. There is passion in the debates about all sports topics. And sometimes they debate topics that are not related to sports. And they always call out each other. Woody Paige is hilarious. Not that smart, but funny.

    That show is ridiculously bad.

ESPN just wanted to capitalize on the PTI type of show, by adding this lame show to the lineup. Unfortunately, having a boxing guru with no personality does not rival the 2 PTI hosts.

Moreover, they have Jim Rome wannabes who chime in with their idiotic statements.

I expected a show like this to be on Fox, sometime between You Gotta See This!!! and The Worst Damn Sports Show Period.

Seriously, everytime I watch that stuff, I think that doesn't look too hard. I understand what's going on. And there's always teh one guy who just randomly decides to bet it all and loses - if he can do it, so can I.

Then, I watch Rounders and I wonder which is more real??

You guys gotta understand that it's entertainment TV. Imagine how boring it would be if everyone agreed that Yao should be the ROY. ;)

Did you catch the guy who said that Stoudemire should be rookie of the year because Yao hit the rookie wall and Stoudemire didn't? For one Stoudemire DID hit the rookie wall, and 2nd he didn't have to play all summer like Yao. And then one of them said Stoudemire was the ROY because he dunked on Yao. Yeah, that's REAL journalistic credibility there!

The reason the show is bad is because it's based on whether Max Kellerman likes your opinion or not. If he doesn't agree with you, he docks points or mutes you. I hate the show personally, only see it when I have nothing to do before PTI.

First, I like watching World Series of poker on ESPN. They make it look so damn easy to play Texas No Limit without going insane over the fact that they just bet $1 million on whether or not the dealer draws a card. Rounders does indeed rock BTW JayZ.

Second, Around the Horn is like PTI on crack. Having a debate show with a point system based on the host liking your opinion is rediculous. Plus, I don't really find any of them as entertaining as the guys on PTI.

Finally all you guys who expected a Jim Rome-esque show just wait. Rome is Burning is coming *sigh*. I hope this is all just a huge joke on his part, seeing as how he ended his last show because he didn't want to split up his time between TV and radio, but he sounds serious.

BTW just to get to the important part of the thread, Yao's "hitting the wall" was what, 2 months ago? Since then he's played better than Amare and has become a very important part (I wouldn't say focal point YET) of both our offense and defense. He leads Amare in most of the important stats, and is right behind him on most others. If they're going to masquerade as experts, they should at least check the facts first.

Jay Mariotti supports Yao for ROY. Did I read something wrong? Wasn't Mariotti the one who said that yao was going to get killed by Shaq before their matchup earlier this season?

I'd say Yao is the anchor of our defense like how Shaq is the anchor of the Lakers defense. Ever wonder why our guards and small forwards defending the perimeter are getting more steals lately? It's because they know that if they take a gamble at going for a steal on a passing lane, and they don't get the steal, and their opponent has a free lane to drive into, they know Yao will be right there clogging the paint ready to either contest and change their shot, block the shot, or force them to kick out in on the perimeter to an open man. Our guards are now able to make more defensive gambles now to go for steals and sort of "cheat" on defense. It's something I've noticed lately in the past few games. Yao has became the anchor of our defense now, and it shows. He's not there yet to be the anchor of our offense just yet, but he is one of our primary go to guys in the 4th quarter when we're trying to preserve a lead or make a comeback. So his role is still key even though he hasn't yet been given the full responsibility of being the head guy everyone moves off of.
