One of Charley's many dumb picks. http://www.fflivewire.com/Article.asp?ID=jhc4755hcj5783g Houston Texans player Tony Hollings is in trouble with the law. Hollings' first court date is set for Jan. 10. The running back was reportedly arrested during a traffic stop Tuesday night after officers found he was carrying a gun without a permit and was driving with a suspended license. Hollings is now out on bond and his first court date is set for next Tuesday.
So between Hollings, Buchanon, and Babin, one of whom is a disappointing starter, the other two are nothing, we have unloaded 3 second and 2 third round pics, right? And that goes along with the legacy of 2nd and 3rd rounders Chester Pitts, Fred Weary, Jabbar Gaffney, Charles Hill, Seth Wand, Bennie Joppru, and Dave Ragone (Vernand Morency gets a free pass for now)? I defy any team, especially one that was gifted with extra draft picks, to have had as pathetic a performance as that in rounds 2-3 on drat day over that span. It's fine that Chas is hitting on Andre Johnson when he picks really high, but for christ's sake, for the place where the meat of the team and its depth should be, he has had four years of harvesting jack sh-t. Too bad he gets to stay around.
John McClain said Vernand Morency almost certainly will be traded in the offseason assuming we get Bush. He said we would likely get a 5th round pick for him or maybe a conditional 4th.
Damn...when you list them out like that...that's unfortunate, Bill. Chester Pitts is the only one that has provided much to this team. Even he, with his rash of false starts, has problems we would all prefer to do without. Gaffney has shown flashes, but for the most part he hasn't produced on a regular basis. Hill was the worst pick of the team so far, Joppru was really just bad luck, and Wand sucks balls. Damnit, reading that coupled with Casserly apparently NOT getting fired is making me depressed.
Makes zero sense to me. Draft him in the 3rd, he plays some and shows some potential, dump him for a 5th.
I am not sure if you guys have read or listened to Gary Walker and Dunta talking about what how the players were not put in a position to succeed on the defensive side. I had seen it many times while watching but listening to Walker specifically breakdown issues with the scheme, I think that many players that we think of as busts or pathetic will turn into solid contributors next season. Tired of everyone whining about Casserly being still employed. Get over it. He is going to be here, all we can do is hope that with the new coaching staf, better decisions are made and we actually utlilize the talent we do have, the old staff had no clue what to do with the people we had. Just look at Armstrong. One of the best recievers we have, and couldn't get a sniff of the field.
I will gladly take that bet with respect to any of the players I listed above. Scheme will not help Tony Hollings, Benny Joppru, Seth Wand, etc etc etc. The only one who might not be hopeless is Babin. That's pretty pathetic, and that's all on Charlie.
Casserly is horrible. Has ruined this team. Anyone could have made the Andre Johnson pick or the Robinson pick- it's rounds 2-7 where you build a winner. And why would we sign so many average players to long term contracts hurting our cap? And why isn't there one single impact free agent on this team after 4 seasons? We would have had better talent if we had just drafted right off Mel Kiper's prospect board- and Kiper is pretty bad himself.
We will probably trade our second round pick vernard morency too. WTF would you get him in the first place. He wasnt used at all.
The Texans are off to a fine start of living up to the Oilers legacy. All they need is a few good teams to blow a few playoff games and all will be as it was again.
Yes, who can forget the Matuszak pick with the 1st choice in the draft, to be followed by George Amundson with pick 14. Better yet, the trading of two (count 'em two) first round picks (not to mention a second rounder) for Dave Casper. Also, they traded what became the #1 pick in the draft for Billy Parks and Tody Smith. To be fair, they did make the trade to acquire the 1st pick in the draft that became Earl Campbell.
