http://www.10tv.com/Global/story.asp?S=4306264 Clarett Wanted on Robbery Charges Jan 1, 2006, 08:11 AM CST Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett is wanted by Columbus Police for allegedly robbing two people early Sunday morning. According to police, at 1:45 a.m. Clarett, armed with a handgun, approached two people in an alley near the Opium Lounge and demanded that they turn over their property. Clarett then got into a white SUV with two other unknown African-American males and sped away. Neither victim was injured. The 22-year-old is now wanted on two counts of aggravated robbery.
"Gee, I think I will commit the robbery instead of my 2 not as publicized buddies in the SUV (unless it was Eddie George and Archie Griffin in the getaway), no one will ever recognize me..."
Clarett is one of the few people so dumb that you instantly believe this type of news without giving much critical thought.
Sad? I don't feel one bit sorry for this kid. He should have stayed in school and would have eventually been Heisman/#1 pick type player. You challenge the system, you lose, can't play, get fat and out of shape, no team wants you, look at what you have to resort to.
He would have most likely won the Heisman, won another NC, and would have been a top 5 pick (if not #1). The kid was that good, what a waste of talent.
I never thought the NFL would have graded Clarett a top 5 pick. With the NFL, it's not so much what you do in college, it's how they project you. And they project players based on 20 times, 40 times, how many bench press reps of 220 lbs, intelligence tests, etc. I'll say it again: He was supporting a drug habit. Had to be.
True, but Clarett had superstar written all over him. He might not have been the fastest RB out there, but rushing for 1200+ yards for 16 TDs w/ a NC in your freshman campaign was very impressive. Kinda like Ricky Williams, he wasn't exactly the fastest or most agile player out there, but there wasn't a lot of people that could have stopped him.
