Entrepreneur involved in Enzo Ferrari crash arrested

    Monday, April 10, 2006; Posted: 11:14 a.m. EDT (15:14 GMT)

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The Swedish video game entrepreneur involved in the 162-mph crash of a rare Ferrari has been arrested on suspicion of grand theft, officials said.

Detectives concluded that the wrecked Enzo Ferrari -- one of only 400 made -- along with a Mercedes and another Enzo Ferrari in Stefan Eriksson's collection were actually owned by British financial institutions, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Eriksson apparently brought the cars to Los Angeles when he moved from Britain last year, but the financial institutions that held the titles said his payments had lapsed.

Authorities have said the $600,000 Mercedes had been reported to London's Scotland Yard. The Ferrari was worth more than $1 million.

All three cars have been confiscated, and Eriksson, 44, was arrested at his Bel-Air home Saturday, Whitmore said.

He is being held without bail because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement put a hold him, the Los Angeles Times reported in Monday editions.

The Ferrari crash spun into a web of mystery when Eriksson told authorities that he was only a passenger in the car and that the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich. He said Dietrich ran into the hills, but a search by sheriff's deputies turned up no one.

Officials have questioned Eriksson's story, noting that only the driver's side air bag had blood on it and Eriksson had a cut lip. The front of the red Ferrari crumpled when it slammed into a poll on the Pacific Coast Highway on February 21.

Eriksson was an executive with Gizmondo, a European video game company that filed for bankruptcy.

Oh, I am here, but not with that scumbag or his pal Carl Freer anymore.

I am launching a new company.....

Every time I read about Stefan and Carl it just pisses me off, we had a viable product, and some serious games and applications coming...and they pissed it all away.

I hope they rot in jail.

Here is a good article on the whole thing

Other than the games being crap, because the ones they mentioned are all great games.....the article above sums it up nicely.

Plea deal refused in crash of $1.5 million Ferrari
    By ANDREW GLAZER
    Associated Press

LOS ANGELES — A Swedish businessman who authorities say crashed a stolen Ferrari sports car worth $1.5 million on Pacific Coast Highway turned down a plea deal today that would have had him spend two years and four months in prison.

"I cannot agree that I stole the car because I didn't," said Bo Stefan Eriksson, 44, speaking through a Swedish interpreter in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Details of the offered plea deal were not immediately released.

Eriksson is charged with three counts of embezzlement, three counts of grand theft and illegal gun possession, all felonies. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of drunken driving. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 11 years in prison.

His rejection of the deal came as jury selection began in the case.

Prosecutors allege that Eriksson illegally imported two rare Ferrari Enzo sports cars and a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to the United States from Great Britain. One of the Enzos was destroyed Feb. 21 when Eriksson hit a utility pole in Malibu at 162 mph. Eriksson initially identified the driver as a German man named Dietrich, who authorities couldn't find. He also claimed he was a deputy commissioner with the "anti-terrorism division" of a small transit agency in the suburban San Gabriel Valley, authorities said.

Eriksson is a former executive with Gizmondo Europe Ltd., a computer game company that went bankrupt last year. He spent five years in a Swedish prison in the 1990s for assault, extortion and other crimes.

I hope he goes to the clinker. His past history shows he's a loser. A rich loser but still.

So he stole a Ferrari and than crashed it? Is that it? I don't see what the big deal is. Is it because of the value of the car that makes him a scumbag? I see people who sit on the side of the street drinking and asking for money bigger scum than this guy.

This is such crap, the guy leased the cars with his ENORMOUS Gizmondo salary....then stopped paying on the lease.

Snuck the cars into America using employees names in order to get around customs.

Reports a Mercedes SLR McClaren as stolen, when he shipped it to the USA, and stole MILLIONS of dollars from Gizmondo by having the parent company pay his side company money for literally doing NOTHING.

Carl Freer & Steffan, along with Mike Carrender and Steve Carroll stole millions and sunk a very promising company in which a lot of us worked our butts of to make work.

And, the device is cool, and the 2nd one.....had hand held video conferncing capabilities.......

    Dang....it was CPT Kirk's communicator......

I am still pissed about it.....
