Yeah, so I've been bored and even with summer starting, I've decided to start decorating my room. So, I turn to you, BBSers for ideas. Right now, all I've got are framed pictures hanging up, and I plan on using jewel cases as "frames" for smaller pictures. Also, I plan on taking a photo from the same spot at the same time every day, for an entire year.. and then putting all of those together.. So yeah, most of these are related to photography because yeah, photos rule Anyone else have anything they think I could use? Can be simple, unorthodox or whatever.
Since you love photography I highly recommend these sites: http://www.fredmiranda.com http://www.photozo.com http://www.pbase.com Enjoy.
It depends on what aspect of photography you are going for. For landscape/nature photos, Ansel Adams is hard to beat. The photographs I took in HS were mostly of objects. (I'm not a human subject kind of girl.) So my favorite pics I took in HS are the ones I have hanging in my stairwell. My other favorite photography venue is coloring photographs. Not colored photographs you get developed at walgreens. Taking a black and white photo, spray it with finishing spray (you can find it at hobby lobby or michaels) and color the photo with soft leaded pencils. Prismacolor puts out some great soft lead pencils. Just remember not to color too hard, you'll screw up the picture.
I had the option to renew my lease taken away from the house I was renting in '95 because I painted a 7' tall Rockets logo on my wall (the classic one). It looked incredible.
What do you use your room for ? Sleeping? Studying? Art and Inspiration? You should make choices based on what you want your room to be, and how you want to be. If you make a special spot to do something every day, you are likely to do it. How do you feel about going bedless? You could keep your bedding in a corner locker. You could use mats that roll up. It would center you in the room, and make you look for purpose in your life. Low wall shelves are great for candles and rice paper lamps. you could paint a black wainscotting with white pinstripes around the wall, and trim it will a flat chair rail. You could put shelves over that, tiered up the wall. You could use shadow boxes to show your photography. Make the boxes slightly larger than the object and vary size and dimension. You could wire light in the shadow boxes by putting a hole in the wall behind the top of the box and running a small cabinet eye light to the top. If you had four of those and a lamp with a dimmer switch in the opposite corner on a small table next to a reading chair and ottoman, you'd have something interesting. You could set a simple black tv unit opposite the door and you could do yoga tapes with your matting. You could run black shelving all the way up the wall in alternating tiers. You could accent an area with color on the wall. You could use a muted rice paper base color for the wall but accent with warm tones and primaries, that would contrast like a gallery space - blue shelf, red shelf, gold shelf. You could use a small coffee table with footstools or ottomans for work space and chess set and keep a zen garden. Ehh... I'm just thinking dorm room for under 400 at target. It's a style that works when you don't have a lot, and want to direct your focus to peace and improvement.
