Israelis wanted to do something about that, but we said no. Some talking head was saying that Iran might have enough enriched uranium for 5 or 6 within the next 4 years.
Israel can not do anything about it. Iran has taken more than enough precautions to make sure nothing short of an all out war and possibly regime change will completely eliminate its nuclear capabilities. Once they got the know how it was only a matter of time, saber rattling or not. As I said in another thread, the only option available will be containment. We can handle a nuclear Iran but we will have to repair our relations with the Arab world first for that containment policy to work. Arab states are more worries about a nuclear Iran than even Israel is, it is time to play divide and conquer again. If we do not know how, we can ask the British for pointers.
When the US and Israel openly talk about invading Iran, it isn't surprising that they would be so desperate to obtain their nuclear weapon deterrent.
hey, that's dynamite. yeah, as long as they don't kill me or my fellow countrymen, blow up whoever the hell else you want with nuclear weapons. that's a super philosophy.
Under the assumption that they can actually build a nuclear weapon, they should with some minimal engineering deliver one to China (at least the Western-most third of China) on the Shahab 3b.
I agree with the bolded part only. The last thing in the world Iran will do is give nuclear technology to Arabs. It's Iran, not the Arab countries, where our diplomacy needs to be put in overdrive. IF IF IF IF the so-called "divide and conquer" model applies, we should choose Israel and Iran and dumps the Arabs. That is, if Iran is reasonable. They know good and well their country will be incinerated the minute they use the bomb or give it to someone else to use. There was a long discussion in D&D about this 3-4 years ago. An Iran apologist moron here called "creepy floyd" basically nuked any reasonable debate by defending every single thing Iran did/said no matter how outrageous. (He was eventually banned for something unrelated). People need to realize Iran today is not the same as the 1970s. The country has progressed tremendously and the mullahs aren't representative of the population. It is definitely a salvageable country and should be a natural ally of the United States against Al-Qaida and other Sunni extremists like the Taliban (who is one of Iran's mortal enemies). Iran also values it's place in the world as a great country and wants respect like India and Pakistan got when they unveiled nuclear weapons. It isn't a dysfunctional basket case that feels like it has nothing to lose, as with North Korea. Not at all. If Israel or the U.S. launches a military strike against Iran it will unleash political and economic around the world comparable (or maybe worse than) the current global downturn. I know this sounds crazy to most people here, but the risk of attacking Iran is greater than the risk of them getting nukes IMO. The Obama administration MUST start from scratch and engage Iran instead of pursuing the incredibly stupid Bush doctrine of trying to isolate them at every instance. Bush and minions should have started changing course in 2004 instead of 2008. What a wasted 4 years! America's collective hatred of that country because of the Ayatollah Khomeini and the hostage crisis must end. 30 years is a long time and we must be collectively educated as a nation about what Iran is today. I believe there is a real chance that a government which more closely reflects the population there is possible. Maybe it's a pipe dream; maybe not. Fire away.
It's getting to the point where once I see 'experts' in an article I lose trust. 'experts', 'scientists', and 'economists' are the mysterious forces behind our policies all in favor of asking the Iranians nicely raise your left hand all in favor of sanctions and economic/political pressure raise your right hand all in favor of deadly force stand up. I say let's smuggle Christian missionaries in and see what happens.
Just in time for the inauguration Pyongyang announces they now have enough enriched plutonium for 5 new bombs. Coincidence ?
scary stuff, but not because I really think Iran has a nuke or will use it here. It's the propaganda of people blaming Iran/using it as a precursor to war if another '9/11' happens here.
