Damn, Deckard! Really enjoyed this. And here I thought I've seen and heard everything Hendrix... btw, can't rep you at the moment
Yeah, I would say having Eric Clapton and Keith Richards in your backup band....is pretty cool. I swear, I could listen to Chuck Berry all day long and never get tired of it. I have a friend who worked an event where he played and said he would literally show up 20 minutes before his start time by himself, park in the regular parking lot, get his guitar out of his trunk and go through the front entrance right to the stage. When he was done, he would go backstage, put his guitar back in it's case, walk out the front door to his car in the parking lot, put his guitar in his trunk and drive away.
Not sure about the validity of this, but legend has it his song was the inspiration of one of the man Super Mario powers.
And he uses a local pick-up band every time he plays live...calls out the keys. I have local musician friends that have backed him up....they said it was tough, cuz he plays in odd keys, keys unlike the recorded version of the song, etc. So it is almost like you can't do your homework. Closest I ever got to playing with him was opening for the late great Johnnie Johnson at the Palomino in North Hollywood back in 1992.
