Here's is my tirade, both humble and true... _________________________ Wednesday Oct 17th My car would not start so I had it towed to the Pep Boys next door to my apartments (in Austin) where I had work done on it previously. They said again it was the distributor, which they had replaced 6 months and six days earlier (the warranty was for 6 months so I was screwed) again cost me $500 (New parts, foreign sports car). They did not have it ready by 3pm Friday, when I had to catch a plane out of town to a wedding, told me it would be ready when I got back. Got back Tuesday night, they had left 6 messages on my machine....Apparently someone had backed into my car, totaling the front fender...they think it was a tow truck bringing in a car, but no one "saw anything" (and you don't bite the hand that feds you) they said, of course they are not liable for cars left with them, even if it is their fault you HAD to leave it and that is why they have NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING EVER, posted all over, so that they will be free to destroy anything they'd like. To be fair-....I was told I could get 3 estimates on the damage and mail them to corporate, OR write a letter to Santa & stick it up my arse, whichever was most convient!!! since they were coverd under the law via their "We didn't do it" signs.....soooooo bottom line, please boycott Pep boys and if you are very creative.....nah, nevermind. Thanks for the 2 minutes of your life
That totally SUCKS!!!!! -Take pictures of the damage, go around the property and let them seeing you taking pictures! -Call a Better Business Bureau, see if you can file a complaint or something -Call your insurance. Did you have non-covered motorist coverage? I was hit and run once and that saved my arse! -ALSO, Yes, call their corporate office, be super professional and curtious...if that doesn;t work, be an A-hole!! sorry to hear 'bout your car I'll join you on that Boycott!!
Thanks Oily, Luckily Insurance can cover it, w/ a huge deductable & rate increase,of course... I am going to AT LEAST write to corporate and give them a chance for redemption....
Joe Joe's never to go places lists 1) Seguin, Texas 2) Moulton, Texas 3) Johnson City, Texas 4) Pep Boys Sweet...Its been a while since i've added another place to this list. The other three places are on the list for redneck justice. I'm a young white male from houston, I fit the profile for crimes committed in these areas. I didn't feel like an American in 1-3. My two brothers and I were pulled over in JC because we fit the profile of three white young males making prank phone calls from various phone boothes in JC. I don't see how people driving thru a podunk town in the middle of BFE for the first time fit the profile of serial prank phone callers. They checked for warrants for nearly 45 minutes and we were given the good ole police escort out of JC. I felt like Steve Sax. I shall join your Crusade. America for Americans
Not responsible for anything ever ... that's BS. Where was the car? In their garage, in their parking lot? If it was in their parking lot they could probly get away with that argument by claiming it was a hit and run and that they don't know who did it. your insurance should cover it, but that sucks.
Pep Boys is notorious for this. Took my car there for a simple brake job. Upon leaving my car was squeaking worse than a Metro bus. I accepted that as the squealers and this would adjust during a "breaking in" period. 1 month later my brakes are still squealing and now there is a new sound- grinding. That can't be good. Took it back..they have the car for 2 days then tell me nothing is wrong with the brakes. 2 weeks later I take it back, it is *still* squealing at every stop. Needless to say, along with my lack of game, this does not help with the ladies. "Nothing is wrong sir, but if you'd like to upgrade to our top level brakes, I'll give it to you for half price." I knew this was just a part of the scam, but I just wanted the noise to stop. Bought them. Noise stopped for 1 month then started again. Took it to another mechanic and I've been gliding to quiet stops since. 6 months and 400 dollars later I finally get it into my thick skull. Never go to Pep Boys. A good and trusted mechanic is like finding gold. Any suggestions?
That's just the thing, ya know, they said it was in the lot, I was out of town for 4 days, they could've had it in the shop beating it w/ a freakin' hammer for all I know, they did however file a police report, which was pretty surprising.
Done. I bought some car mats from them once, but suffice to say, they'll never see the gr8-1 in there again.
I will not go to: Firestone, Brakecheck, or Pep Boys. In fact, unless it's an emergency, I won't go to any chain mechanic place. For those who need some mechanics: There's a place on 610 North (right about the middle between East & West), that does CV joints, CHEAP. It's just a little podunk place, but they do the work quick and again, CHEAP. There's another place that does clutches, but I can't remember the name. I'll have to get back to you on that one. Otherwise, my dad has a mechanic that he goes to. If I have anything major I go there. I know he's not the cheapest in Houston, but I also know he's not gonna screw me around. For oil changes, I recommend Wal*Mart. They're pretty cheap, and you can get a little shopping done while you wait.
Damn that sucks! I wont ever go there again! Mail this freakin thread to the corp head office and tell them they are going to lose a crap load of business!
I got this from the better business bureau: "Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record " it is for everyone of their stores, nationwide...a little too late for me, but be aware!
BBB Customer Experience Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to its failure to participate in the arbitration process after committing to do so. http://www.search.bbb.org/national/results.html
I'd walk wherever I needed to go before I let Pep Boys touch my car. All I ever hear about them are disaster stories.
sorry....man...it makes me want to get my 7mm rem. magnum rifle and shoot a window or something..... (don't worry, just venting against the establishment! I hate the establishment!)
Add "Just for Brakes" to your list. They "just break it off in your a$$" SOS with the brakes - squeal squeal squeal Umm we don't know what's wrong - could be the rotors. Then magically offer a discounted upgrade and they still squeal. Take to other mechanic - Fix cheap - works fine....
Thanks for all the support ya'll, we really do have the best web site here...in some cases (like my "silly complaint") its the only way we can get our voice heard by a large audience...Thanks again, ...anyways, have a good day! (smiley little sandwich)
Pep boys sucks. So do the Pet Shop Boys. Pretty much anything that starts with 'P-E' and ends with 'B-O-Y-S' sucks. It makes me so freakin' mad when people, self included, get screwed by anything automotive related. IT's like, we don't know any better so they just bend us over. Imagine if all businesses were that way. Oh wait. Most are. I would love, and I mean LOVE, to video tape a car repair facility giving me a pokey-pokey from behind and then NAIL them in court. God, that pisses me off, in case you can't tell. And good luck with your insurance claim. Those people suck fecal burgers as well. Chance
