    Hey everybody,

I work part-time as a pizza delivery driver. There is one complex in our delivery area that is fairly shady, but I hadn't had any problems there except for the occasional, "Yo, you gotta hook me up with some free pizza fool." That all changed tonight. I was returning to my car in this complex after I had just finished my delivery at about 10:00 pm and I had to walk past this black guy wearing a do-rag to get there. I was a tad suspicious of him and should have listened to my instincts. When I approached him, he pulled out a gun (I think it was a gun, it made a clicking noise when he cocked it and he pointed it at me, but it was kind of dark). I don't remember what he said, just a bunch of gibberish and then rifled through my pockets. I just kind of went with it and let him do his business and didn't look at him directly. Two things piss me off about it though, he took my cell phone and just before he took off, he punched me in the jaw. It was a pretty weak punch and I'm positive I could take this guy in a fair fight, but this was anything but fair. I called my number when I got back to the store and the guy answered it. I didn't know exactly what to say, I just said a random name and asked if he was there and he said he wasn't. I guess he probably realized it was me, and I just hung up. Anyway, I've been robbed once before on a delivery, and this one wasn't as big of a deal. It just makes me really angry because I'm struggling and working hard to get by and make an honest living, and this total coward who probably has never worked an honest day in his life pulls this crap. Although I probably did the right thing by not resisting, I would have loved a chance to beat the crap out of this guy. Really frustrating....

Yeah, I called the police after I got back to the store and an officer came by and took my report. I didn't get a very good look at the guy, and would have trouble recognizing him, so my description wasn't great. He had a deep voice that was pretty distinctive, though, and seemed less than intelligent. Thankfully, I wasn't carrying my wallet, because replacing all that stuff is a real pain. He just took what little amount of money I was carrying to make change, and the money I received from customers on two deliveries, $50-$60 total. My store reimbursed me.

I'm glad you're okay. Maybe you should look a less dangerous line of work, like shark hunting.

    Look on the bright side.

This makes you a "cagey veteran" pizza delivery man.

Next time, you could be a HERO and save those pizzas, something those astronauts know nothing about.

Transfer to the SugarLand Papa John's on Towncenter down the street from First Colony Mall. I never had anything close to a problem there. And out of all the drivers I knew who've worked at various locations for PJ and the Hut, we've all agreed that in terms of safety, this PJ is the best.

Dude that sucks! You may want to look for a new job, pronto. No job is worth that.

As an aside, you might get a kick out of this story.

An acquaintance of mine in High was doing the pizza delivery thing, and one day he came up with this scheme:

He would pretend he was robbed and injured during the robbery, and then he would sue the big pizza corporation.

So this is what happened: And I have to preface this by letting you know that this story is completely true!

He goes to work, as usual, and runs a few deliveries.
Then he goes out on a delivery, tosses the pizza, hides the money, and SHOOTS himself! (You have to know his family; not the brightest bunch of fellas. A couple of years before he threw a big new years blowout at his parents house. When his dad wanted us to leave (around 50 people, the dad came into the back yard and started shooting his gun!)

Anyway, his shot was basically done by him pulling the side of his stomach and shooting the gun so that the bullet only went through flesh and fat.

Sadly, the investigation concluded that he had done exactly that, and he was subsequently fired.

This is not a friend of a friend story, either. I used this guy's I.D. as my fake I'D' in college.

Anyway, hope that story helps cheer you up a bit!:)

Sorry to hear that, I deliver pizzas also and let me give you some advice. If your delivery area has any sections in it that are not safe, move on to a different store in a nicer part of the city, even if you have to commute an extra 20 minutes or so. Your tips will be better(trust me), and you won't have guns pointing at your head. Don't worry about learning a new area, after a month you will be fine. What general area are you delivering in? If you are interested in working in The Woodlands area and need a job, let me know.

That's terrible! :( But of course what is paramount is that you were not hurt and could share your story here. :)

I was robbed once as a teen. I was a bicycle deliveryperson for a store in a rough neighborhood. In that incident there were six guys who cornered me going up a hill near the projects (I also delivered there). I did the same as you did (not resisting) and they took the money ($40-60) and left. I probably would have fought them if I were hit -- but remember I was a teen then, a time when people actually used their fists to settle disputes instead of guns.

Well after that I started carrying a switchblade which eventually the owner found out about and fired me over. I felt that I should be able to defend myself but of course he didn't want that liability, so it was on to other things.

It was a nice job -- I met a lot of great people in the neighborhood, but ho man was it dangerous because of derelicts.

I would consider the advice of others about finding another line of work...or at minimum a better neighborhood if that's possible.

When I was juror, get this, the vicitm's phone was stolen just like you, so the police called, the criminal picked up, the police said I'm stranded can you help me (another victim maybe), so the criminal decided to meet the police at a location. I should add at this point the criminal was in possession of the victims' car.

Then it gets crazier. As the police are driving to meet the criminal and bust him they see the criminal at a gas station in the stolen vehicle. At the same time the original victim pulls into the gas station by pure chance to get some gas. He see's his stolen car and goes ballistic. The police quickly follow. And then you have a long chase thru backyards and what not involving all three parties. The Criminal still didn't unload the phone and was caught with it when a resident dialed 911 cause some guy was hiding in her front porch.

    cagey veteran,
Man, I'm really sorry to hear about that. You sound like you came out of it pretty good at least enough to write about it.
I've gotten mugged/jumped twice in my life and I HATE it when that happens. Violence sucks!:(

Find another job if you can, sounds like that ain't worth it...

If he took your cell phone, then the please could possibly track him to his hangout or house when he uses it. Criminals tend to be on the stupid side and use cell phones obtained in robberies which lead to them being caught.

I'm not sure if the cops would pursue this since it's not a murder or something larger. But, they could.

Cops call your number and whomever answers...trace the call to that location and bust that person. It's probably the same dufus who robbed you.

Here in FW, there were some guys who would follow people back to their residencies and, when these unsuspecting victims pulled into their driveway or garage, these people would jump out and come up to them and murder(or attempt to murder) them. This was going on for a while and several people died until these people stole a cell phone and started using it. Then, they got busted no problem.

I meant to say "police" instead of "please" in the first sentence. No edit it appears so...

Jesus, man....AGAIN???? Glad you are ok. At least you didnt get the snot beat outta you this time. You should call T-boy, he'd fly into Houston for the weekend to hunt that f-er down and skin him alive. wait, maybe you shouldn't call him.

Sucks about your phone. You gonna replace it? I called the number a couple of times this a.m. but it just goes to "Hey you. You've reached my cell phone." So he's not answering.

    Low-lifes suck.

Again, glad you are ok. A cell phone isnt worth it.

Man that is scary stuff. Get the hell out of that business in that area.

Stick to the suburbs, man. Higher tips, less riff-raff like this to deal with. It's not worth putting your life on the line, which is what you are doing.
