WTF. That's all I have to say.

I was in my Anatomy and Physiology lab sporting my Longhorns shirt I got from my dad for Christmas, and this guy walks in, also wearing a UT hat. He sits right next to me, and looks at me and just says, "So.....uhh...I notice that shirt's kinda new lookin'. Did you just get it because of the Rose Bowl?" I looked at him kind of crazily and just plainly said, "No. I'm from Texas. I grew up there. The majority of my family went to UT, and I would have gone there had I not moved here."

The funny thing was that he said that little comment as the room got silent, and he said it kind of loud. Because of this, the whole room heard our little conversation, and you could tell the kid felt absolutely dimwitted for his comment.

    I love it! :D

He claimed he'd had the hat for 2 years, and everyone made fun of him for it. The hat looked new to me....

this whole "t-shirt fan" issue is kind of stupid.

if i see somebody wearing a canucks t-shirt, i'll undoubtebly make a comment like "nice shirt" or "great game last night" or whatever - if they seem confused i'm a little irritated that they don't actually follow the team, but i'm more than happy that they're wearing a canucks shirt over an avs or redwings shirt.

why go out dissing people who are reppin your squad, whether they are big into it or not?

I actually thought it was pretty cool that he liked the Longhorns. More and more people up here seem to be liking them, too. He did know a few things about them, too. We talked about Vince Young for a few minutes, which was cool.

He tried to tell me that the Texans already said they were taking him, which I laughed at, though.

    *sigh*

Once again, if you don't understand the "T-shirt" concept, you aren't in Houston.

The majority of "T-shirt" fans are people from Houston that either:

Went to UT for a year
    Went to SWT
    Went to ACC
    Went to UH

Typically, ALL of these people root for UT. I've got no problem with a UT grad rooting for UT. But for the rest? Root for your own damn colleges! :p

being a UH alumni, i'd get sick watching fellow Cougars root for UT, or any other texas uni. for that matter.

i'm pretty sure this is something that is greatly beneifitting UT...so why the fuss?

do you think people from Chapel Hill are complaining about the millions of dollars the University of North Carolina makes off of merchandise (t-shirts)? I doubt it.

maybe you're just disappointed that you aren't considered more special than the other guys wearing the t-shirt even though you went there longer?

do you want them to make special t-shirts for UT grads?

Since I don't live in Houston, but I follow the Rockets, does that make me a t-shirt Rockets fan? :D

Because he's not a UT fan. I know many UT grads who know that a) I'm a huge UT fan and b) that I graduated from SWT. The only people who have given me a hard time about it have been non-UT fans.

I get what you're saying, Fatty, and I kinda agree with you. But why can't we root for both UH and UT? I mean, if I own 30 Houston shirts and 1 UT shirt, and I happen to bump into you on the one day of the month when all my UH shirts are dirty, does that make me a bad fan? Or a "T-shirt-er"? As Houston sports fans, we already suffer enough. Do we need more misery? :p

Who really cares? Root for who you like, not because of what other people tell you.

oops, just noticed my ****ty grammar above.

manny, i agree. i see fatty's point, but if you went to UH, with a shattered athletic program, or acc, with no sports at all, why shouldn't you root for the marquee texas program?

It is The University of Texas. It is understandable if folks who don't have a direct affiliation with a rival (or a school with a D1 progrom) but who live in, or like, the State of Texas to root for the Longhorns.

I am sure a lot of Houstonians root for Rice to win games yet have no connection to the University.

Plus UT is the one of the three largest universities in the nation. Lots of fans across the nation do have direct connections. It isn't like the Dukie Dorks or whatever they call themselves.

assuming you're a Rockets fan, did you root for the Mavericks or Spurs when we were lottery bound for 5 seasons?
