After signing Morris Peterson, it appears the Hornets will no longer make a push to re-sign small forward Desmond Mason, who wants a salary beyond $8 million. The likely scenario is a sign-and-trade deal.

The Hornets are still interested in re-signing backup point guard Jannero Pargo, and negotiations continue between his agent, Mark Bartelstein, and Bower.

The Hornets can offer a three-year deal to Pargo that would not put them above the cap. Discussions, however, remain stalled involving Hornets free agent Devin Brown.

With the addition of Peterson, the Hornets still have up to three roster spots to fill.

I AM FIRST TO SAY I LOVE DESMOND STYLE OF PLAY!!! HE IS SO ENERGETIC AND GETS TO THE BASKET HARD!!! WHO AGREES WITH ME??

If we trade mulitiple players for him, it might be a good way to free up some roster space while adding a rotation player. I don't know whether the Rockets want Mason at that price, but they should be looking at ways to get the roster down to 15 players.

So Desmond wants 10mil. What are we giving up to do a s/t?

To be honest, we need strong role players ...not more stars. Too many stars usually wrecks a team. If Desmond wants 10mil/yr, its because he think's he's the man. You really think he'd accept coming to Houston and being the 3rd option? ...even if we could do it?

I think I'd be happier w/ James/Rafer/Aaron than unloading half our team to get Mason.

If we could get Francis for cheap or Bibby in a no-brainer trade scenario, then obviously you do it. But trading half our team to get Desmond doesn't sound too appealing to me.

Hmm, a 6'5" SG/SF that scores mainly on post ups and drives and can't shoot at all from the perimeter (career 26% 3pt)? Great! Maybe we could trade Bonzi and Snyder for him!

    No, wait...

    And Play him where?

We already have cheaper better options in Battier and Wells

No. That signing would be a complete waste of money, and push us deep into the LT, which would mean Les would become uber cheap.

Agreed. Mason won't get anything aproaching $8M/year and I don't think that you're going to see the Rockets going into LT territory for a guy of Mason's quality. If you can get a guy that puts you over the top, then yeah, but Mason certainly isn't that guy.

Do you honestly beleive there won't be another team in the league that could put together a better offer than Head, Lucas and Sura?

Seriously, dude. Wanting him and a shred of reality are two different things.

While we are at it, why don't we go after Garnett too. We could offer Chuck Hayes (to replace their PF spot), Bonzi, Deke and a 2nd rounder. We could sign Vin Baker and throw in his contract too in order to make salaries match.

Then our lineup would be Mason, TMac, Battier, Garnet and Yao. Sweet.

Wait a minute, we're a little thin at SF.

What garbage can we toss the Lakers to pick up Kobe. How freaking sweet would THAT be?

    :D

I dunno 'bout him. He's one of my less favorite players because he tries to start s*** with Yao. I get the impression he doesn't like him and wouldn't want to be on the same team as him in a role he would have to defer to him. If the thug can grow up and put his beef behind him, then he'd be a solid player to have.

Didn't Billups just sign for like 12 million? And he is asking for 10 million get real. I like his athleticism but I would only offer a mid level exception for a guy that has no purpose for this team.

i have come to the realization that MASON just F-ed himself.

something that bonzi did, they offered good money, but money that no other team would even think about giving him, and then ends up signing for something like 3-5 million

    now if this happens......who's down?

Crazy trade proposal = took 3 seconds to laugh.

Relevance to Rockets = 1 second to laugh.

A player that hates Yao = 10 seconds to laugh.

All caps thread title. = Priceless

    Or one star.

    Word.

T-Mac also plays SF. We don't need him. We're deep enough at SG/SF
