I know that Boozer is in the last year of his contract and is a 2nd year player so Clevland is limited in what it can offer for him. He is the perfect fit as a PF for this team...smart, tough, and basketball savvy. Do we have a chance capologists? I mean LOOK at those stats.....this guy should be on my favorite team. And by hook or crook we should go get him. DD
Dak - i like what he does too. His D is great, uses his body well and loves contact, doesn't get a lots of blocks but boards like a demon and his offense is consistently improving..... he's a second round pick right?? according to patricia's site he is on the minimum with the contract expiring in 2005, but there is team-option on it.... think it is like Arenas scenario and also like Ginobili for the Spurs... my guess is it will take more than the MLE to get him... but I'm not sure if he is a free agent or not...
I am pretty sure that this is his 2nd year and his contract expires this year, and he is an unrestricted Free Agent...a lot like Lewis and Mobley, etc...etc... I would think that Clevland is limited to the MLE just as we were for Mobley....and if you go over that you can snatch him up. Maybe a sign and trade for him with Mo Taylor if Clevland is thinking he is leaving....or perhaps we can use our vaunted trade exception to gobble him up. This guy is a GREAT complimentary player. DD
From what I;ve heard, Boozer has pretty much said that, short of an earthquake, he intends to stay in Cleveland and be part of the James Gang's bright future...
les and cd gonna get cheap and let the cato experiment continue, or probably pick up something useless. Boozer would be a great additoin though.
conflicting evidence on the web patricia has a 3 yr deal signed in 02 whereas another site has 2 yr deal that expires after this season again MacBeth is probably right Cleveland will likely re-sign him, aside from Big Z they basically have everyone under 4 million a year, and Z's contract expires after next season.....
That sounds right to me - makes more sense for him to stay in Cleveland and have a chance to shine than to come to Houston and be 3rd fiddle. 32 and 20, that's a pretty sick number. How in the world did he get to the FT line so many times?
Fizer would also be handy.... wouldn't also mind adding Chris Anderson to our bench if we can get him cheap..... interesting to see if they leave Mo unprotected in the expansion draft......
What if we dangled Mobley, do you think they would bite? Ah the expansion draft...I forgot about that.......that is going to be very interesting and will change a ton of things. DD
they might bite but seems like Big Z is in the doghouse and apparently Silas likes the D Diop brings, not sure if i was them why i would let Boozer go for a guard when they have James and Wagner
yeah i was thinking about that myself, i had assumed the untradable Mooch would be left unprotected, but now he is gone it could be interesting... if somehow we land a real PF who can play on both ends then it could be an interesting way to improve our cap situation by leaving Mo or Cato unprotected, and Cato would be less likely as he is a Centre and can play some D
Does anyone else besides me think it would be worth a look at Jason Collier for a backup center now that the Rocks are running the high post offense? Personally, I would trade Cato and let Collier back up Ming for 16 minutes a night......at least he can shoot. DD
Smeg, Mo T, Padget at the 4 fo sure....... Mo would play the smaller 4s and Padget would play the bigger ones and draw them out to the 3 point line to give Ming room to work. On defense, Ming would have to provide coverage from the weakside to shut down the middle. But Cato can't guard Garnett, or Duncan....and neither can Mo, or Padgett..... I just think that Collier can play a little, and I would trade his offense for Cato's defense. Cato has to go...IMHO. DD
Cato might not be able to guard KG, he did ok against Duncan and he generally does a much better job than Mo and Padgett on the defensive end all season long.... no way the team defense, especially the saggin off on the perimeter, forcing them baseline and doubling the post works anywhere near as well as it has with Mo and Padgett manning the 4 all on there own..... think are also overestimating the impact Yao has on D, he is just not ready to provide that helpside coverage all on his own yet..... that also helps with Cato's value..... personally i don't mind the PF mix right, not bad considering how one dimensional each of the parts are......with the exception that Padgett and Mo should play a bit more when we play the teams with smaller 4s like Boston, utah, Dallas....... Sure Collier might have been able to play a bit....... but can't see JVG going for it with already having the no D Padgett and Mo on the roster.... a PF like Boozer but with a little more range on the J would be perfect... but a useless dream
