...and you guys here in Houston are going to love it! Your humble poster with three years on the board is now the Executive Producer of Sportsradio 610. I will be steering the imaging, creative content, and promotions of the station I have loved for 7 years. It is unbelievable and I cannot contain my enthusiasm about this position. I am going to be leaning on the board a lot because the wealth of information that filters through this site is remarkable. All of the best of the best ends up in the hangout and the best of that will make it on the air. I want suggestions from you guys. Much akin to Tim in the Rockets forum I want to know what you think and what you want. Tell me what sucks and what rules. Give me ideas for giveaways and on-air games. Give me ideas for spoofs and parodies. This is going to be awesome! Also here is a rough draft of an Astros song we are working on. For the Pulltab fans you might like the edgier sound we are trying to get of late. Keep in mind it is very rough and the finished product will be more complicated. I Can't Believe
Nothing like my first week on the job being SUPERBOWL WEEK!!!! I have some meetings on Monday and then I will be on radio row for the rest of the week. "Hey Chance, we want you to hang out on radio row and grab some stars for interviews and bs'ing" And they are paying me for this? Hallelujah! "Hi Mr. Marino my name is Chance McClain. Please pardon the growing wet spot on my pants but I am rather excited and just pissed myself." "Snoop, got a sec?" YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
All I ask is that you get Jay Mohr on this week. Also, LESS point spread talk. That is the crappiest radio on the air. I'd rather listen to 99.1 than hear picks and spreads. I feel the same way about recruiting talk. If you have to have it limit the time. MORE INTERVIEWS and LESS callers.
Congrats Chance on the new job offer! I hope it works out for you and promote Clutchcity.net on the radio!! Good luck w/ everything.
Less...Longhorn...Talk. I want to vomit everytime I turn on 610 and they are talking about the Longhorns.
That is awesome! If you're ever hiring, let me know!!! I sent Rich my resume in April and he passed it on to his boss and said there was interest to hire me, but they weren't sure as to what position, since my forte is sports writing. But good luck and you are one lucky b*stard!!!!
Damn, that is awesome Chance! What a week to get hired! Super Bowl week!! Talk about being envious... Sounds like a great job. Good luck.
Congratulations, Chance! If you get come up with any scoops on the Rockets in your new position, PLEASE pass them along as appropriate. Do it under a different moniker or something. We're dying here with the lack of insider info.
Congrats. Now If you can just put a good word with some of the radio hosts because I'm a journalism major(focus on sports) about to graduate from UT definitely interested in volunteering or interning at the station . But seriously congrats. It's not that easy to get a position like that.
Less football. John McClain is uber boring. Other radio that sucks ass... point spread radio recruiting talk player call in shows player interviews repeat callers that repeat themselves I'd much prefer hearing AB get 15 minutes (broken with 5 min commerical wheels) to crack wise with the host, guest and callers. Don't do player call shows. Do ex-player call shows. Like Air Bull with Vandermere. He can say more. It doesn't have to be an ex-Oiler or ex Texan or whatever. Bring Andre Ware in for perspective chat. Whoever - Just make it good radio. Mix in the comic or a sexy girl to be sure the perspective doesn't bog down into yeah yeah yeah yeah or z-fest I remember when storylogues or Rich/Charlie minutiae. It's just a lot more fun to have the caller hit a panel of different perspectives rather than smash into a monumental wall of boring radio jocks. Overall advice - mix it up. Keep it fresh. Make people curious.
Blasphemy! He's the only football guy I find interesting because he knows what he's talking about, and he still intersperses personal points of view. It IS SportsRadio 610. Also - Chance - perhaps the advice you get on the board will be better if you tell us whether 610 is trying to remain a sports station or if its becoming a man station instead.
