I thought Doug Collins was supposed to be a terrible coach?

According to the NBA Dish at least. 27-55 last year, 26-28 so far this year. How are the Sixers able to do that with such an awful coach?

Never seen Doug ripped on this board, but I'll take your word for it.

The emergence of Jrue Holiday has helped, as well.

    Doug used to coach Michael.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to point that out since he's no longer reminding us on-air as a color commentator.

But on a more serious note, he's done a very impressive job in Philly so far.

He's no HOF coach, but he's certainly not a bad coach. He's squeezing all of the talent out of these guys and motivating them, something Eddie Jordan couldn't do. I read somewhere he has complete confidence in his guys, and because of that, they play hard and don't worry about getting benched.

Collins is not that bad a coach. At least not bad enough to have had his team in the playoffs a few years. So he can win given the talent. Also, they are not as bad as a 27-55 win team. In the recent past, they've had respectably averager records. A 27-win season is probably caused by factors other than talent.

http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=185988 (Though no real mention of Collins)

I'd say only a minority of people said he sucked.

This is like when Kubiak took over the Texans after they went 2-14. It was hard for them not to have a big improvement because they underachieved so much.

But it looks like Collins has done just fine so far. I wonder how long it will be before the players get tired of listening to him. Since Eddie Jordan was such a flaming disaster last year, Collins should be OK this season in that regard.

Notwithstanding his penchant for reminding us that he used to coach MJ, the guy was the color commentator that would drop the most knowledge during a game about what each coach was trying to do. I often learned something from listening to him. Can you say the same about listening to Clyde?

Also, if I were a coach and had coached MJ, I would probably remind everyone from my wife to the drive-thru guy at the McDonalds that I coached him at least a few times a day.
