pick and roll with Yao and Steve in close games.

RIght now the best pick and roll duo is Bibby and
Webber and do it pretty well.

I think especially against LA we should do that because Shaq won't come out to guard Yao.

I like Taylor getting the ball in the 2nd quarter and early in the 4th. Unless he is hot like against Washington I don't like us to run our offense through him in the last 6min. I would like to see Steve or Yao taking those shots or if hey are double teamed to pass it to wide open Rice, Cuttino or Taylor

Yes. Our offense should be mainly going through Yao Ming and should be initiated by Steve Francis.

The pick and roll would work wonderfully against Los Angeles. Just like it works wonderfully against us. But I don't know if Steve Francis can knock down the jumpers...we haven't done it much at least.

It's a two man game with Yao and Steve.

    NOT Yao and Mobley.

And if they are double teamed...then pass it to the open man. And then pass it up if we can get a better shot.

    So easy!

    :(

But I think we are gonna lose to LA.

Ok. I always hear about pick and roll done by Stockton and Malone.

But, can someone explain to me what is 'pick and roll'?

guy sets a pick, then when the opponent is picked, he goes to the basket , receives pass from the guy he picked for and hopefully scores

Steve is the best jumper shooter on the team. I'd rather him take it over anyone else on the team.

One guy sets a pick (Yao) on the ball-handler's (Francis) defender then rolls to the basket or good scoring position on his own defender. This play (probably ran since the advent of the NBA by Naismith) -- if ran correctly -- should open up an open shot for Yao or Stevie or whichever two run it.

    I think I explained it correctly... :)

Good job. Can't run it with Eddie and Steve. When we do, Eddie always backs up behind the 3 pt line. I've never seen him shoot a 20 footer before. I've seen plenty of 23 footers though.

Running a two-man game would hurt us more than help us, we've got so much talent EVERYWHERE on the court that we should exploit it by quick passes crosscourt. Not only would that tire out the defense, but it would give us plenty of open shots and lanes.

 2 of our starters often cannot make wide open shots and that's a lot of talent???

Quick crosscourt pass??? How could crosscourt pass be quick when it needs to cross the whole court? And isn't it a very risky pass?

And don't you think a 2-man game is better than the 1-on-1 ISO game we're often using.

Also, Kings run with a lot of PNR with Bibby and Webber especially in crunch time and they have more talent than us.

Do you ever see Stockton and Malone run PNR? They have a lot of options off that play and create shots for either of them AND other players. And they get everyone involved that way.

I agree with the original poster that Steve and Yao do need to run more PNR but Steve needs to remember to pass to a rolling Yao whenever he's open otherwise it's a waste of play.
