He is NOT overated, he is a star player, and may become a Superstar. The guy is just a very very good player. I wish he were on the Rockets, I would trade anyone other than Yao and Tmac for him. I would have traded Cat and Francis for him. He is just a good team player. DD
Have you been drinking the Spurs cool aid again? You've been living in Austin to long. Ginobili is more erratic than Francis. He is as likely to do something stupid as he is to doing something amazing. Ginobili is not even a legit star 2 guard and definitely not at Cat's or Francis's level. There was a reason why he lost his starting spot last year for part of the season.
Ginobili is a backup caliber player. If you have NOBODY on your team, you can just give him the ball and let him try to run wild a la Iverson, but he is not nearly as good.
He ain't overrated. He just plays in the system in San Antonio. Manu is a star, that plays team ball for the Spurs.
For someone that's usually hard on players that are erratic and make stupid mistakes, this is surprising. Some games Ginobili is on. Some games he's out there just f*cking up. Seeing how he's 27, this isn't something you can just attribute to age.
ginobili came off the bench for the spurs. superstar calibur for sure. with all his upside at 27 years old, he'll definitely get there. i hear he's gonna break 13 and 5 and 4 next year. WATCH OUT NBA!!!!
I love Ginobili, but he is erratic. I've watched many of his team Argentina games pre-Olympics, and some games he'd go missing the entire time. The dude has crazy "I'm gonna take it to the hole no matter who is in my way" skills though. He's good, but not a superstar.
Now that was a basketball game. I really got into it because both teams were playing basketball. I hate the type of game where it's jack-the-3-up-only-slam-dunks type of offense that Team USA and the NBA likes to do. This was just a hard fought win for Argentina and both teams used skill and determination for the full 40 minutes. Great game.
It's obvious the guy is just a winner. Would the spurs have won the title without him in 2003 (his rookie year)? He makes huge plays at the most crucial moments, hits the big 3 (not last year against the lakers admittedly). Not to mention that he's just really fun to watch. Considering the fact that he costs 2/3 the price of Richard Jefferson, I'd take him any day.
I wouldn't say Gino is overrated. IMO, he's not a star player, he's a very good player that fits into the Spur's system. He's not overrated because he isn't an all-star, he's isn't talked about by the media all that much, so why is he overrated? I would agree that his contract is pretty big, but that's because the Spurs are willing to over pay for him because it would hurt the chance to win a championship if they lost him. Only a contender would pay Gino that much. So for those reasons, I don't think Gino is overrated.
Ginobili's stats from the Diamond Ball Tourney. Luis Scola (13.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg), Fabricio Oberto (11.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Andres Nocioni (9.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Alejandro Montecchia (9.3 ppg, 8-17 3FG), Carlos Delfino (8.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 spg), Manu Ginobili (7.3 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 spg) Ginobili shot 7 for 21. This guy wasn't Robert Horrying it. It was a legit tourney and Argentina came in 3rd place. Ginobili is not super clutch, otherwise the Spurs would have won it this year and not needed to get Brent Barry. I love Ginobili. I have no idea if he's overrated or underrated. He's good, but not a star. Way too streaky.
