I think #15, KT and #38 can get us Stoudamire or Haislip and Prince or Nachbar

There is a possibility that Stoudamire is available at #15 and if he is we should take him. Then we trade KT and #38 to Detroit to get their #23 and with that we pick either Prince, Nachbar or C. Jefferies.

    Potential roster:

    Cato
    Taylor
    Rice
    Francis
    Mobley

    Ming
    Griffin
    Prince/C. Jefferies/Nachbar
    Moochie
    Torres

    Collier
    Stoudamire
    Morris
    Brown
    Simon??

Chances are that Kenny Thomas is and always will be better than Stoudamire, Haislip or Nachbar.

Thats alot to give up. Most players who are drafted below 10 will never amount to anything more than nice role players.

Only way I give up KT is in a deal for a potential stud sf(Tsika, Butler, MD, mebbe Woods). No way I give him up for a guy that might turn out to be a good role-player(Nachbar, Prince, Jeffries).

Good role players = exactly what we need.

We can't afford KT, he'll ask for Mo money, Mo money, Mo money; we can't carry three power forwards who will all want to start.

KT has a great game but he's one of our only tradeable assets. We need a solid 3, maybe someone who can develop for a year or two behind Glen Rice's 24 minutes per game, a small forward who won't merit the max, because EG, SF, and YM will all get that eventually.

KT and #15 could probably net Nickoloz. If he turns into a stud, worry about the contract at a later time.

Of course there are always other trades out there we have never considered, but I wonder, do we even have the #38? or does it go to Miami?

    Ming-Cato
    Taylor-KT
    Griffin-Rice
    Mobley-?
    Francis-Norris

Since it seems like we are going to take Ming, we need to decide where Griffin will play. If he plays PF, we need to send KT of MoT somewhere for a SF. If he plays SF, we don't utilize his shotblocking ability-Ming & Griffin (2 best shotblockers in the NBA)

All this talk about a C & SF, do we have a legit SG to backup Mobley?

Getting Stoudamire would give the Rockets a ton of options. The Rockets do not have a "beast" down low. Even when we draft Ming we still aren't going to have that big guy who can jump out of the gym and out-muscle players. Stoudamire would give the Rockets that guy. He would have been a top five pick last draft, possibly number one. Unlike the other high schooler's last season, Stoudamire has the full physical package. He's quick, agile, and strong. And from what I've seen of him it looks like he plays with more tenacity than those guys, but at the same time he's much less polished. He will produce a lot of monster dunks throughout his career.

BUT, you have to look to the future too. Stoudamire, Griffin, and Taylor at one position? Those are probably three starters or future-starters. That would be tough to make all three of those guys happy in two or three years. But if the Rockets are faced with the choice of Nachbar or Stoudamire at #15, that's a tough choice to make. I would probably take Stoudamire, in the hope that we will eventually be able to trade Maurice. And then, who knows, maybe the Rockets should try Eddie at small forward and use a zone defense like the Twolves did last season. Can you imagine:

    C Ming
    PF Stoudamire
    SF Griffin
    SG Mobley
    PG Francis

The Rockets will lead the league in blocked shots and should be a very STRONG rebounding team. Yes, they would have some weakness too, but what team doesn't?

At 15, a good player should fall to us. I think you take the best available player at that spot, regardless of need. If Stoudemire is there, I think you take him. We can always do a trade from a position of strength later.

Nachbar might not be a bad pick. He could be the next Peja, but he could also be the next Turkcan. Unless Rudy T is sold on Nachbar, I think Stoudemire would be more of a commodity for a future trade for a stud SF. Or maybe we keep Stoudemire and trade MoT for an overpriced but effective SF down the road. Picking the best player available increases your options, as opposed to strictly drafting for need.

I would love to see the Rockets draft Stoudemire. He provides the toughness that the Rockets need. I think a frontcourt of Ming, Stoudemire, and Griffin would be very comparable to a frontcourt of Hakeem, Thorpe, and Horry. I remember the years that the Rockets won their championships they were always near the top of the league in blocked shots. I think this front court could do the same.

What? I don't mean to be rude, but does that suggest that an unproven rookie and a still-developing 19 year old will all of the sudden leapfrog shaq, ben wallace and deke as the best shot-blocking players in the League? It would take at least 3 years for that to come to fruition.
Also, it has been suggested that griffin would make a good 3, in my opinion he'd make a better center. Think about it, the team's best shot-blocker and rebounder. If he can get better in the post and is really 6-10 235, then it could work. That is, if we choose to pass on Ming (not likely).
