RECORD SHARK CAUGHT IN NOVA SCOTIA Did you all see this? This Mako was hooked in the mouth, only fought slightly for 15 minutes, came up along side of the boat to have a look, long enough for one of the crew to put a rope around its tail !!! That's when the s**t hit the fan!! The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS. The boat was taking on water, the Shark would jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the Shark actually drowned. He weighed in at 1035 LBS link
Man, sharks are scary as all hell. It's those eyes. Maybe the teeth have something to do with it, too.
Great... now that part of the ocean is going to go 'ape-sh**' in terms of fish population. Big daddy isn't around to eat everything in site anymore.
Sharks have to keep swimming to continuously move water across their gills. If a shark stops moving. they get no flow across their gills, and get no oxygen, thus they drown
But isn't the ocean "moving" water? Strikes me as odd, also. I guess there is a rate that it has to flow...
What's the point of fishing for and killing this shark, though? It's lived this long and gotten this big so why do this to it? I kind of wish that shark pulled their boat underwater and ate those guys.
That's like saying we shouldn't have to breathe when it's windy outside since the air should flow into and out of our lungs effortlessly.
It's one of those man vs. nature conflict things, like you hear about in school. People (usually male people) have to try to take on nature, often in the form of large animals, and win... some primeval conquering instinct I guess. I feel kind of bad for the shark. He seemed to have a lot of scrape marks on his side from the process, too. I'm surprised the guys didn't just cut it away in order to keep themselves out of danger. Maybe they thought it would come after them. Looking at that mouth, it could eat all of them at once like a handful of M&M's.
Once the shark got tired, he stopped dragging the boat backwards and he began being dragged backwards through the water. Water does not flow through gills both directions (at least not efficiently) and after a while, the shark drowns.
The eyes don't scare me, those teeth though, uuugh. I shudder when I think exactly what kind of damage those things do.
haha look at that guy in the purple hat, he's like "yeah dude, we almost got f@#ked!" they should have just let the shark alone.
