It was better than expect... don't be put off by the trailer guys! Certainly it has flaws and cheesy dialogue like expected of summer blockbusters, but... it's got some really nicely down CG and a few pleasant gems in there. B+, well worth the price of admission.
As an action movie, I found the movie fairly good. But as a fan of Asimov, I must say the movie hardly did him justice. Definitely not a movie that makes you think the way Asimov's Robot series did.
I saw the movie and thought it sucked. I was really expecting this to be one of the best movies this summer, but it was dissapointing. The action scenes were good, but the story and how everything was put together sucked. It had one tight line though.
hey - i got a great idea lets make a movie (or write a book) about these robots that get put in mass distribution to fix all of the worlds problems (like overpopulation and unemployment???)...and then make them turn on us - yeh, that idea rocks.
You do realize that this based on one of the classic science fiction stores, written in 1950. If there's anything cliche about this story, it's because every B movie writer from 1950 onward read the book and ripped it off.
I liked the movie, definitely a good B+ action movie. Not as good as say ID4 or MIB, but definitely better than MIBII or Wild Wild West on the Will Smith scale. I thought the best acting in the movie was from the Sonny the robot. I felt he had more emotion and human qualities than even Will Smith's character (who actually did a decent job on this character, at least after the first 15 mins). Literally, you begin to forget that he is just a computer generated character, and really see him as a major character in the movie. Best action scene is probably the car scene in the tunnel.
The Robots don't technically turn on humans, what they are doing is what they believe is the best for the protection of the human race. *spoiler* actually, it's not the robots doing it, they are under the control of a supercomputer that has evolved on it's own.
To expound: NPR did a story on the movie. Apparently, the movie rights to I, Robot were not available when they started the movie. They were just making a robot action movie. When the movie rights did become available, they bought them and then fit in some elements as an afterthought to make it Asimovian and took the title. It made me feel a good deal better about the movie to know they weren't actually trying to make I, Robot.
i thought this movie was really good. however i didn't understand some parts. it wouldve been nice if the final scene was longer
I think it was "Is that not registering with you?" That line was so awesome, I don't remember who he said it to or why.
Oh, that was on the trailer. Anybody mind giving me ALL the spoilers because this isn't a movie that I want to go see but I do want to know what happens.
I think he was talking about the line when they are in the office. ****spoiler****** The rich guy is trying to convince the Scientist that killing Sonny is the right thing to do (spending a good 5 mins in doing so). When he finishes, Will Smith sneezes loudly and obnoxiously to get everyone's attention and then says, "Oh, sorry, I'm just allergic to bulls***." Everyone in the theater went nuts over that one.
