why would any of us care what your viewing habits are? did someone ask? i guess narcissism is somehow a more noble quality in your world than voyeurism...? ------------------ Ric http://www.houstonprofootball.com
Rudy didn't win the 1st show. Richard did. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
gee, I didn't know someone had to be asked to post something. you are not alone 110. I have not gotten the urge to watch survivor either. I don't get the fascination. But I don't like a lot of things on tv. I don't like the gameshows, I don't like the numerous crappy drama shows, I don't like sitcoms(the only ones that make me laugh now and then are Raymond and King of Queens). NBA, NFL, cartoons, "educational" stuff, MTV2, and the occasional movie are about the only things I watch now. ------------------ snap crackle pop
I've taken the same stance ever since Trash TV, err MTV decided to have 507 different Real World and Road Rules casts. I mean a sane human can only take so much of that ****! ------------------ Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.
I watched the first episode after the SuperBowl this year. The only reason I watched it was because I was at my girlfriends house, and her mom wanted to watch it. Not having watched one minute of it the first season, all I could think was, "THIS is what had/has the world in such a tizzy?" I just thought it was stupid, and I haven't watched it since. ------------------ "I have no regrets except that I wasn't up to keep Randy from getting on that plane." --Ozzy Osbourne on guitarist Randy Rhodes
the ones who care are responding to this thread. THere are plenty of threads for you to participate in. This is not about myviewing habits, this is about an opinion that I am sharing with others who may or may not agree with me. . oh, i see that my first post was wrong. RUdy got voted off, Richard survived. whoopty -doo. ------------------ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. I must admit, a year ago I would have whole-heartedly agreed with you, across110street. I didn't see any of the first Survivor, and I got seriously tired of hearing about it. However, I made the mistake of watching an episode from this season past, and it dragged me in. They design that show in such a way that it makes you want to see the end and find out who wins. After that show, I couldn't help but watch every week just to see who was gone and try to predict who would be gone next (almost like a Fantasy Basketball thing). Plus it didn't help that on Thursdays at 7:00, I never had anything to do. ------------------ Give me ambiguity or give me something else. I don't watch the shows, but I don't care about them either way. They look pretty ridiculous IMO, but to each his own. What I hate is how "news" programs and media feel the need to cover every angle of the shows during news programming airtime. Whether it is a talk show or an actual news segment, the networks force them to cover it and I know news people hate it. I'm watching the "news" which is already filled with stories about liposuction and Brad and Jennifer's trip to the deli. The last thing I want is a story about a show on the network, Survivor or otherwise. ------------------ So, I took the million dollars and bought a steam shovel...
If you never seen an episode, I don't know how you can say you don't like it. Ive only seen half an episode from Survivor I and I didn't care for it. If my life was that boring that I had to watch someone elses, I think I'd change mine! I think many people watch this because its the 'in' thing to do. ------------------ Im too drunk to walk ... I've never watched Survivor and never will. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams and Lisa Malosky fan club. atheistalliance.org
Conversely, I don't understand the backlash against reality TV. Why do people hate it so? I especially don't understand how people can can claim to hate all reality TV shows without even watching a single moment of a series to figure out what the craze is all about. Is it cool to bash reality TV now or something? ie: across110thstreet wrote: "after reading the posts about Survivor, I wanted to show my disgust for the "Reality-Based" show...........I have never watched one minute of Survivor, from last season or this season" Isn't this just a wee bit hypocritical? How can you claim to hate something you know nothing about? For me, the appeal lies in watching the people interact. The contestents are all very colorful individuals with different ideals and values. It is interesting to watch them clash with each other. The show appeals to me from an almost psychological perspective, I guess. I'm also highly competitive by nature, so I like to speculate on what type of strategy I would employ in that type of situation. I also don't think it is fair to lump all reality TV series together. I mean, I enjoyed Survivor, The Mole, Boot Camp and to a lesser extent, Temptation Island, but I absolutely hated Big Brother, the Real World and most of the others. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
I watched one episode of the first survivor with my family. It was really stupid. I will never watch another episode of such a lame show. I don't understand the appeal of watching other people hang out on an island and play games. It just seems a little too much like someone's vacation slides to me. Maybe if there was some chance of the people not surviving it would be more interesting. ------------------ You can't stick a porcupine in a barn, light it on fire, and expect to get licorice.
Survivor is a fraud. Interesting articles on that site for anyone that enjoys watching survivor. ------------------
After reading everyones comments, it makes me wonder how survivor can be the #1 TV show. Are these ratings bogus just to get more people watching? I heard the conspiricy theory that with the hollywood strike, they are trying to get more reality based tv shows in. (since reality TV based characters are not part of the union guild or whatever) I also heard on the radio about a show that was canceled because they lost connection and the ratings went up. I don't understand how this works. ------------------ Im too drunk to walk ... Im driving home!
Funny that some critics of reality-based TV shows say "it's not real so it's stupid", but these same people have no problem with completely staged shows performed by actors... ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
The 'Reality TV' haters better get used to it. With the upcoming writers and actors strike looming, more Reality TV shows will come up. Why? Because you don't need actors or writers! I never really watched Survivor 1 or 2. But I can see why it is so addictive. ------------------ Rodney Dangerfield "Business is so bad, hookers are selling toasters" Karma happens...and it tastes like chicken...

I Hope Im not the only one, but after reading the posts about Survivor, I wanted to show my disgust for the "Reality-Based" show. Out of respect, I chose not to reply to the SUrvivor Threads, but to make an ANTI-Survivor thread. I have never watched one minute of Survivor, from last season or this season. Yet, the entire country is caught up in it. I know that last year a guy named Rudy won. Why? Because he was on the cover of every magazine in America. When I read the title of the thread " Colby, Tina, or Keith" I thought to myself "what does this mean?" Of course, anyone who watches the show would recognize these names immediately. I have a feeling that I am the minority here, as not only do I have no television channels by choice, but if I did i would choose NOT to participate in this hype that has swept America by storm. To Those who watch the show religously- I Am not bashing you. I might be missing out on something grand, but more power to you , I'll be over here waiting for next season(basketball that is) ------------------ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
