I think it was around the end of September when I smoked my last cigarette. I didn't want to remember the day I quit because I figure it would then be a reminder every day. One day since my last smoke...two days since my last smoke and so on. I wanted to hurry up forget about it.. Now I don't even remember the last time I thought about it. (Besides now) The day I quit I was out of cigarettes and I went the store, got a pack and came home to smoke. I didn't even finish it when I realized I didn't want to do this any more. I took that smoke and pack to the restroom and destroyed them all. I quit cold turkey. The first few days were very annoying and almost painful. I even had a dream or two about smoking. I turned my backyard into a par 11 and I learned to play golf with a six iron and tennis ball. I may buy a full set of clubs now so I can really learn. After the first week the nervousness faded away but the habit was diffidently still there. I found myself reaching for a pack throughout the day when I would normally smoke only to grab air. It was weird, it wasn't just one grab and then remembering "oh yeah, I don't smoke." No, I would reach a few times, check my pockets and look around before I realized I don't smoke any more. It sucked. Well here I am today thinking it has finally become normal for me not to want a smoke. Does that make sense? I may have found a new hobby during all that crap. It's probably more expensive but at least it's healthy.
Congrats man! I was able to quit smoking regularly a few years back, but I still have one many times when I drink. And considering how I often I drink, that's not good.
Nobody likes a quitter. Congrats, man. I quit for a week about a year ago. Ended up getting right back on them. I do plan on quitting, but I'll need a similar "screw these damn things!" moment before I try another serious attempt.
Good job. I was into smoking cigarettes when I was much younger but I never really became addicted. Sometimes, I would smoke and it just didn't taste very good while also not feeling like I had to have it. Then, one night I was going to sleep and I started to feel like I was craving cigs because I would start salivating like I had to have one. It was at that time that I thought my smoking habit was getting the best of me and I dropped them. Then, I would only smoke occassionally while drinking and out with other smokers. I haven't smoked in a few years now. So, since I was never fully addicted, I don't really know what that is like and trying to quit from that other than watching the plight of others. I never could understand why some people would quit for a few months and then they would start again. Why would anyone kick a nasty habit like that and then fall into that trap again? It's just dumb.
Thats kick azz Blatz! I quit Y2K, I had smoke for 12 years and decided it twas enough. Got a little fatter but my lungs is a pretty pink
Congratulations! You probably smell a lot better, too. Smokers really smell aweful and frequently don't realize that people can smell them from a mile away. Now's a great time to try whitening your teeth, too. It's healthier. It's cheaper. It smells better. It looks better. well done! -- droxford
Nice job, man! I sympathize with how hard it can be--I only smoked for five years, but I was a fairly heavy smoker. Quitting cold turkey was the hardest thing I may have ever physically done--but I feel great now! Congrats!!
Congrats! In a couple of years the smell of smoke will make you sick. Then you'll start complaining about smokers and their nasty habit. At least that is what happened to a previously 10yr/2 pack a day smoker - me. I'm on 16 years and counting...
Congrats and keep it up. It's a dirty habit. Believe it or not, it gets easier not harder. I had my last cigarette on New Years Eve of 1999. I quit cold turkey for Y2k and I've never looked back. You can do it!
I'd smoked for many years. Quit cold turkey 2+ yrs ago. What's kept me off was a friend's advise: do not pick up that 1st one again. You smoke that 1st one, you are a goner.
Yes, those non-Y2K compatable cigs were bad. Note to smokers: Do you guys realize that after a smoke break and then getting on an elevator, lets us non smokers want to ignore you guys? Its your body, I know, but come on! [RANT]
Congrats! I admire you for giving up the habit. I am on my way to quitting. Some of the people on this board know that I began smoking cigs when I was 13. I am 43 now. That's 30 years of ciggie smoke in the lungs. I recently changed my smoking habits. For starters, I now only smoke at night. No more cigs in the morning or taking breaks at work during the day. I also switched to rolling my own ala Travolta in "Pulp Fiction". Not only is it cheaper, I find that I don't smoke as much since rolling them is such a hassle. I also noticed that I don't cough as much, since it is pure tobacco without all of the additives of a ready-made pack of smokes. Eventually, in the very near future, I will put them down altogether. It's definitely time. I just need the willpower.
That's because they were manufacturered using a 2 digit year format(98,99,00, etc.). When it rolled into year 2000(or 00), the cigarette-making machine thought it was supposed to use older tobacco leaves archived from 1900 instead of new tobacco leaves from 2000. So, they produced a bunch of bad cigs that are still in circulation today. These are mainly found in Afghanistan now.
Congratulation, especially on giving up such a nasty and deadly habit. I've been trying to get my parents to quit for years, maybe I'll succeed one of these days.
One thing smokers hate is people antagonizing them about smoking. Trust me, I'm trying to get my fiancee to stop.
