...and I have to say that this one will be worth the $60. I am contractually obligated not to reveal details until September 23rd, but if you have been on the fence about buying it, I highly recommend a preorder. It is an epic game, the spaces are massive, the enemies are really quite intelligent (and I only played on heroic), and the story was extremely engaging. I am attending a Bungie press event in which I was invited to play today and tomorrow. We spent today on the campaign and those of us that finished early spent a couple of hours in multiplayer. Tomorrow is multiplayer, saved films, and Forge (the map editing mode). If anyone is interested, I will be happy to post a link to my review once it is published on the 23rd.
i'm playing the COD4 beta, that game is awesome! Halo 3 coming soon, i think its gonna be a sweet year of gaming.
My stepson told me that he read somewhere that there would be multiplayer maps designed for only 2-4 players. I think that would be kind of neat, because as interesting as big team games can be, I find it more fun to have a small match with a handful of people so the smack talking can be more concentrated. Is this true, andy?
Andy, Do the new vehicles change the single player aspect that much? I have heard good things about this new Brute cycle thing...but is it that much different from what was in Halo 2?
The campaign graphics were quite nice. I was a little worried during the Beta what with the AA jaggies, but it was incredibly smooth and textured. To be fair, I was playing on an Aquos 42" HD at 1080i, had my own screen, and sat 2-3 feet away. Even so, I was extremely impressed. I will be publishing a TON of content on the 23rd at Noon PST.
I have been so busy that I haven't had tome to play it. Is it an open Beta? I have already signed up with them, but just haven't had the time to pursue it.
There are some more intimate maps, but the scale of Halo has been increased dramatically with the ability to use the 360. It looks like it is designed with some pretty big battles in mind, but there are a couple of maps that are good for small unit tactics.
I SOOOOOO agree with you. Multiplayer is what Halo is all about and there has been considerable emphasis put on multiplayer. Keep in mind that they added a slew of talent, so I wouldn't say that there was more emphasis on one or the other. Frankie said in the update a couple of weeks ago that with Halo 2, they had to sacrifice a LOT because they didn't have the time or the numbers to do everthing they wanted to. This time, they didn't have to sacrifice anything. Multiplayer has received considerable attention, and is surely what will drive Halo players for years to come but what impressed me more was the story. I was not particularly engaged in the story in H2, this was different.
You are talking about people who are basically professional gamers playing on a lower difficulty level. My competitive nature and knowledge of Halo allowed me to keep up. In addition, it depends on how you define a "day." We showed up early in the morning and the event ran until 2 a.m. You will get more details than you can imagine on the 23rd.
I am filing this one under "it is amazing what you can get when you ask for it." It kinda fell into my lap and I was aggressive enough to make it happen.
Can't really get into details, but all the vehicles have been tweaked, which you saw if you got on the Beta. I do, however, have a new favorite vehicle.
I agree. I played the campaign in H2 when I didn't have Live (I was finishing up a semester and didn't want to screw my GPA), but MP is what has driven and what will continue to drive Halo for a LONG time.
