Hi, I'm new to this board. Anyways, I'm a member of the Wellness Center by Hwy 59. While I was there playing basketball with some other guys this afternoon, guess who showed up? None other than Cuttino Mobley himself. I was completely shocked and even more so when he asked to play (we said yes of course). Anyways, we played a game of five on five. Cat seemed a little rusty today, but he kept on jacking up shots as usual. Honestly, I cant remember him passing the ball after he got it. Anyways, I didnt have a camera so I couldn't take a picture, sorry. After the game I mustered up enough courage to ask him a question. I asked him if he was using the summer to practice and what he expected this season from the team. He told me he always uses the summer to get better and thinks the team will make the playoffs and should be at least last playoff seat if they can beat out Clippers. One more thing, he said that we would be surprised at Cato this season because he's been working really hard on his game. Cat told me that Cato even went to a big man's camp this summer. I can't wait to see The Rockets this season!
That sounds pretty cool! Kind of wish I could have that happend to me. Cato's working sounds good too. I think the world will end soon, too. Oh yeah, welcome.(I'm new to this, also. Been here for only about a month.)
I played with a Texas ball player a couple of years ago and he dunked over me. It wasn't really embarrassing or anything, but it still makes me laugh to myself. The guy was six ten and I was a foot shorter. What was I thinking standing under there? Either way, it's quite a memory to play with truly higher caliber men. I'd rather have been in your position.
Never, I repeat, never leave the house without your digital camera. It's called the rockHEAD and Drewdog No. 1 rule of professional stalking . And next time ask him about Ming, please.
cato and ming will be the most underrated center duo in nba history. that was my bill walton impression. seriously, nobody knows how good either one really is but us. when we make it to the playoffs you can expect that exact quote from the big red head.
Cato working hard and eager to learn? Rockets fans are having foam in their mouth. If down the road Cato becomes starter material and willing to backup Yao or play PF alongside him, we will rule NBA.
"Kelvin Cato, so fluid, so versatile. Shades of the Dream out there." That was MY Walton impression. I don't mean to be cynical, but why am I trying to suppress an image of Kelvin Cato, eager to prove himself better than Yao Ming, overdoing it and twisting an ankle on opening night? Or stressing himself sick? Or getting a hangnail? Or developing Robert-Horry feet? Still, if Cato comes to play, 't'would be nice versatility to put Yao/Cato/Eddie/Mo/KT in the frontcourt spots (KT being the question mark, considering he is tradeable).
That's cool that you got to ball with Cat. Good info about Cato, but I guess we'll have to wait until the season to see how that pans out.
Cato showed improvement particularly towards the end ot last year. . .I am further convinced that selecting Ming . . and all the hype that Ming is receiving is exactly the stimulus that Cato would need to move him to a much higherlevel. Take a healthier Francis, a non-injured Taylor, & Rice add in one years experience for Griffin and a further year of experience for everyone on the Rocket Team. . .toss in Nachbar and Ming and you have to feel that the Rockets are far and away the most improved team in the league. We lost Willis, Williams and Langhi. . .Langhi contributed virtually nothing last year. . . .Willis was great early on. . .but he is 100 years old. . .and Williams fought injur himself all year long. . . . We'll be a play-off team. . . . put it in the bank. . . .
hahaha....man someone wake this guy up. -- hey Kenogu, you didn't mention if Cat played any D at all (you should have tried to break his ankles).
you should have asked the cat what he thought about yao ming? and if he would be successful this season?
It is one thing to have little talent and it is another to have a bad attitude. It amazing that Cato would be coming in fit and ready when last year he came in suggesting that he is not like Cat who keeps up all summer. It was that attitude which caused a Chronicle writer (Bee) to diss him big time. A couple weeks ago I went a couple of rounds with HP on Cato. While he is not as skilled as Ming and EG, I thought that he had a significant place in the rotation. I felt so based on my video review of some of last year's game. He does have the ability to dominate a game based on his size and bulk, rebounding and defense. Ask Dallas! So if he shows a 10% - 15% improvement, all offensively, this year, look out for the rockets. We should remember that he should be less on concerned about fouls given the team depth.
DD Well put DaDakota, I also think the fact that Mobley is mentioning Cato points out why some of the established rockets are a little hard on the Ming idea. He is going to push out a lot of time for people like Cato and Mo and KT and he is still just a rook, so there is a desire to be a little hard, especially with the publicity Ming is getting. But once Ming comes over and shows his stuff and gets to know everyone they will soften to the idea of sharing some minutes with him. Especially once they start winning.
